Anisimova Seeks Revenge Against Swiatek at U.S. Open Quarter-Finals

The U.S. Open quarter-finals in New York are set for an exciting showdown on Wednesday, featuring a highly anticipated rematch between Amanda Anisimova and Iga Swiatek. This clash is particularly significant as it follows their previous encounter in July 2023, when Swiatek decisively defeated Anisimova in the Wimbledon final with a score of 6-0, 6-0. Meanwhile, defending champion Jannik Sinner will face fellow Italian Lorenzo Musetti in another thrilling match.
Women’s Quarter-Final: Anisimova vs. Swiatek
Aiming for redemption, Anisimova is determined to upset Swiatek’s quest for a seventh Grand Slam title. Anisimova expressed her enthusiasm about the opportunity to compete against Swiatek again, stating, “At this stage of the game, you’re going to play a really tough opponent regardless. So to be able to have a rematch or to be able to face her again and give myself another chance, I’m really, really happy about that.”
Since returning to the sport last year after taking a mental health break, Anisimova has shown flashes of her best form, making her a formidable opponent. The atmosphere is charged as she prepares for this crucial match, keen to avenge her previous defeat.
Men’s Quarter-Final: Sinner vs. Musetti
On the men’s side, world number one Sinner has demonstrated his dominance at the U.S. Open, with a remarkable run so far. Aside from a third-round match against Canada’s Denis Shapovalov, where he dropped his only set of the tournament, Sinner has been relentless, recently securing a convincing 6-1, 6-1, 6-1 victory over Alexander Bublik.
Musetti, entering this quarter-final with a challenging backdrop, is aware of the uphill battle he faces. He recently battled through a tough period prior to the U.S. Open, managing only one win from four matches in previous North American hardcourt events. After his win over Spain’s Jaume Munar in the round of 16, Musetti expressed his emotional state: “I can’t explain myself sorry. I’m a little bit emotional right now, because honestly the past month has been terrible.”
Despite the odds stacked against him, Musetti’s resilience shines through. “You have to stay there mentally, and that’s what I’ve done in the last couple of weeks,” he noted. As Sinner leads their head-to-head record 2-0, the pressure is on Musetti to deliver a notable performance.
Additionally, Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime looks to extend his strong showing at the tournament when he faces Australian eighth seed Alex De Minaur. Auger-Aliassime has steadily regained form, having eliminated significant competitors like German third seed Alexander Zverev and Russian 15th seed Andrey Rublev to reach this stage.
The stakes are high as the U.S. Open quarter-finals approach, with a blend of past rivalries and emerging talents set to captivate fans. The matches promise to deliver intense competition as players vie for a place in the semi-finals.
The order of play for Wednesday includes:
- 25-Felix Auger-Aliassime (Canada) vs. 8-Alex De Minaur (Australia)
- 8-Amanda Anisimova (U.S.) vs. 2-Iga Swiatek (Poland)
- 11-Karolina Muchova (Czech Republic) vs. 23-Naomi Osaka (Japan)
- 1-Jannik Sinner (Italy) vs. 10-Lorenzo Musetti (Italy)
As the U.S. Open quarter-finals unfold, fans around the world eagerly await these clashes that could reshape the tournament landscape.
