Singapore Unveils Largest Dinosaur Showcase with Rare Fossils
Dinosaur enthusiasts will have a unique opportunity starting on October 11, 2023, as the Science Centre Singapore launches its much-anticipated exhibition, Dinosaurs, Extinctions, Us. This showcase is set to be the largest of its kind in Singapore, featuring an impressive collection of 33 rare fossils and 60 full-scale models spread across 3,000 square metres.
This collaborative effort between the Science Centre Singapore and the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum of the National University of Singapore aims to provide visitors with an immersive experience. The exhibition unfolds across three interactive zones, allowing attendees to explore both the majesty of dinosaurs and the concept of extinction.
Dinosaurs Of Patagonia is one of the key highlights, featuring a full-scale cast of the enormous Patagotitan mayorum, recognized as one of the largest dinosaurs to have ever roamed the Earth. Another section, titled Six Extinctions, presents over 30 displays that depict some of the most catastrophic moments in Earth’s history. Among the notable specimens is Scotty, the largest Tyrannosaurus rex fossil ever discovered.
In addition to the dinosaurs, the exhibition will also showcase specimens from the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum that underscore the impact of extinction closer to home. Among these, visitors will find the cream-coloured giant squirrel and the rufous-collared kingfisher, both of which are now extinct in Singapore.
Tickets for Dinosaurs, Extinctions, Us will be available for purchase starting on September 1, 2023, through the official website of Science Centre Singapore. Pricing is set at S$25.90 for children and S$29.90 for adults for Singaporean citizens and permanent residents. For other visitors, the standard admission rates are S$35.90 for children and S$39.90 for adults.
This exhibition not only promises to be an educational experience but also serves as a reminder of the rich tapestry of life that has existed on our planet and the importance of conservation efforts today. As the opening date approaches, anticipation is building among both locals and tourists eager to engage with the wonders of the prehistoric world.
