DMK’s Women’s Wing Conference Set for January 19 in Thanjavur
The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) is organizing a zonal-level conference for its Women’s Wing, scheduled for January 19, 2024, in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu. This event, titled ‘Vellum Tamil Pengal’ (Victorious Tamil Women), aims to strengthen the party’s organizational framework ahead of the forthcoming Assembly elections. The Delta region is a significant political stronghold for the DMK, making this conference a crucial part of its strategy.
In a statement released by the DMK, the party noted that the conference would attract a considerable number of women cadres, elected representatives, and office-bearers from across the Delta districts. This reflects the increasing focus on enhancing women’s political participation within the party.
M. K. Stalin, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and President of the DMK, will deliver a special address at the conference. His speech is anticipated to highlight the DMK government’s welfare initiatives aimed at women, social justice policies, and the vital role women play in reinforcing the party’s grassroots network.
The event will be led by Kanimozhi, the party’s Deputy General Secretary, who has been instrumental in broadening the DMK’s outreach to women voters throughout the state. The conference will also see participation from K. N. Nehru, Principal Secretary of the DMK, as well as senior leaders like General Secretary Duraimurugan and Treasurer T. R. Baalu. Other notable attendees include Deputy General Secretaries I. Periyasamy, K. Ponmudy, Tiruchi Siva, and MP Saminathan.
Strategic Meetings Across Tamil Nadu
This conference in Thanjavur is part of a series of zonal meetings organized by the DMK throughout Tamil Nadu to consolidate the party’s organizational framework. Recently, the DMK Youth Wing held its northern zone conference in Tiruvannamalai on December 14, 2023, which underscored the party’s commitment to intensifying political activity at the grassroots level.
After completing zonal conferences in the northern and western regions, the DMK plans to focus its efforts on the southern districts next. Party sources have indicated that a zonal-level meeting centered around Madurai will be announced soon, aiming to finalize the party’s statewide mobilization strategy as the elections approach.
The DMK’s emphasis on women’s political participation and its strategic outreach efforts underscore its ongoing efforts to engage constituents and enhance its influence in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape.
