Chinese Embassy Alerts Citizens in Japan to Rising Violence
TOKYO: The Chinese Embassy in Japan has issued a warning to its citizens, urging them to remain vigilant in light of increasing violence reported across various regions in Japan. This advisory follows a series of incidents that have raised concerns about public safety for Chinese nationals residing or traveling in the country.
In a notice released on Saturday, the embassy highlighted a worrying trend of deteriorating security conditions, specifically mentioning violent occurrences in prefectures such as Fukuoka, Shizuoka, and Aichi. The embassy reported that several Chinese nationals have experienced verbal abuse and physical assaults during their time in Japan, leading to injuries in some cases.
Details of Violent Incidents
The embassy’s notice included a specific mention of a serious vehicle-ramming incident that took place on December 31, 2025, in Shinjuku Ward of Tokyo. In this incident, two Chinese citizens sustained severe injuries and required emergency medical treatment. Such events have prompted the embassy to reconsider safety measures for its nationals.
In response to the rising incidents, the embassy strongly advised Chinese citizens to avoid non-essential travel to Japan in the immediate future. For those currently in the country, it emphasized the importance of staying informed about local security conditions, remaining alert, and taking necessary precautions to ensure personal safety.
Safety Recommendations for Chinese Nationals
The embassy also provided guidance on how Chinese nationals should respond if they become victims of targeted attacks or discrimination. It urged individuals to collect and preserve any evidence related to such incidents and to report them to local law enforcement authorities. Additionally, citizens were encouraged to reach out to Chinese diplomatic missions in Japan for support and assistance.
This advisory reflects ongoing concerns regarding the safety of foreign nationals in Japan, particularly as incidents of violence and discrimination appear to be on the rise. The Chinese Embassy’s proactive measures aim to safeguard its citizens and ensure their well-being while in Japan.
