UNESCO Extends Deadline for International Youth Photography Contest
UNESCO has extended the deadline for its 7th International Photography Contest, titled “Youth Eyes on the Silk Roads.” Young individuals aged 14 to 25 from around the globe are invited to participate by submitting their photographs. The new deadline for submissions is now set for August 5, 2025.
This contest is part of UNESCO’s broader Silk Road Program, which aims to promote cultural interaction and peace among the diverse peoples of the Silk Road regions. Since its inception in 2018 through the initiative of renowned photographer Reza Deghati, the contest has encouraged young photographers to capture the essence of shared cultural heritage.
The theme for this year’s edition is “Guardians of the Silk Roads Heritage: Women.” Participants are encouraged to explore the critical roles that women play in preserving and transmitting the rich heritage of the Silk Road. Despite their significant contributions across various fields, women’s efforts often remain underappreciated and overlooked.
Women have historically contributed to the continuity of cultures from East Asia to the Mediterranean, Central Asia, the Indian subcontinent, and the Middle East, passing down knowledge and skills through generations. Contestants can draw inspiration from many aspects of women’s involvement, including crafts such as weaving, embroidery, and pottery, as well as traditional sports and games.
Photography subjects may also include various cultural expressions such as music, dance, oral storytelling, and culinary traditions. Additionally, participants can capture intercultural gatherings, portraits of women reflecting their cultural identity, resilience, and moments of joy or celebration within Silk Road regions.
Young photographers may submit up to 20 photographs that reflect their interpretation of shared cultural heritage and contribute to understanding and peace. Winners will receive valuable prizes, including cameras, and approximately 60 of the best photographs will be featured in traveling exhibitions across multiple countries. Selected images will also be published in a professional photo album.
This annual contest offers a unique opportunity for young photographers to present their perspectives on cultural heritage sites along the Silk Road. Young individuals from Azerbaijan and beyond are encouraged to participate actively in this initiative.
For more details about the contest and submission guidelines, interested participants can visit the official UNESCO website or contact the organization via email at [email protected].
