Tiffany & Co Unveils Limited-Edition Timer to Celebrate 160 Years
Tiffany & Co has launched a new limited-edition chronograph, the Tiffany Timer, to celebrate the 160th anniversary of its original 1866 Timing Watch. This exclusive timepiece is limited to just 60 pieces, reflecting the brand’s long-standing heritage in horology.
Founded in 1837, Tiffany began its foray into the watch market in 1847, introducing the Timing Watch two decades later. This pocket watch, designed for both scientific and sporting applications, is recognized as the House’s first stopwatch. In 1868, the watch was rebranded as the “Tiffany & Co Timer” following the establishment of a watch assembly workshop in Switzerland.
The new Tiffany Timer features a 40mm polished platinum case, designed with curved chronograph pushers that follow the contour of the case and serve as crown protectors. The faceted crown takes inspiration from the iconic six-pronged Tiffany Setting, while both the crown and push buttons are crafted in white gold.
A striking Tiffany Blue lacquer dial showcases 12 baguette-cut diamond indexes, a process that Tiffany claims takes over 50 hours to complete. This intricate procedure involves multiple layers of varnish and lacquer, kiln drying, and the meticulous hand-setting of diamonds. The watch’s hour, minute, and sub-dial hands are made from white gold, and the layout includes a date display positioned at 6 o’clock.
At the heart of the Tiffany Timer is a customized El Primero 400 integrated chronograph movement developed by Zenith. The El Primero, which debuted in January 1969, is celebrated as the world’s first integrated automatic chronograph. Through the sapphire caseback, the winding rotor features an 18k yellow gold Bird on a Rock motif, inspired by a brooch designed by Jean Schlumberger in 1965. This detail required the recalibration of the rotor’s mass, further enhancing the watch’s uniqueness.
Each Tiffany Timer is engraved with “Limited edition of 60” and comes with a taupe alligator strap secured by an 18k white gold triple folding clasp. The watch boasts a power reserve of 50 hours, a water resistance rating of 10 ATM, and is accompanied by a five-year international limited warranty.
As Tiffany & Co continues to innovate while honoring its rich history, the Tiffany Timer stands as a testament to the brand’s commitment to craftsmanship and luxury in the world of horology.
