Snoop Dogg Joins Team USA as Honorary Coach for 2026 Winter Games
Rapper and entertainment mogul Snoop Dogg has been appointed as the first-ever honorary coach for Team USA ahead of the 2026 Winter Games in Milano Cortina, Italy. The announcement, made by the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) on December 11, aims to infuse a sense of West Coast spirit into the American team. Snoop Dogg’s role will involve supporting the athletes as part of the “Team Behind the Team,” a group that includes staff, coaches, medical experts, and administrators dedicated to ensuring athletes are well-prepared for competition.
In a statement, Snoop Dogg expressed his excitement about the new role, saying, “Team USA athletes are the real stars – I’m just here to cheer, uplift and maybe drop a little wisdom from the sidelines.” He emphasized the essence of the team, highlighting that they embody “the best of what sport can be: talent, heart and hustle.” His commitment to motivating the athletes reflects a deep appreciation for the values represented in the Olympic and Paralympic movements.
Building Connections with Athletes
USOPC Chief Executive Sarah Hirshland noted that Snoop’s introduction to Team USA felt more like a natural camaraderie than a formal partnership. “From the moment Snoop met Team USA athletes, there was an instant connection – mutual respect, genuine curiosity and a lot of laughter,” she remarked. Hirshland praised Snoop’s contagious enthusiasm for Olympic and Paralympic sports, expressing excitement for his official inclusion in the organization.
The rapper, born Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., has already made a notable impression on the Olympic scene. He was a vibrant presence at the Paris Olympics, where he energized Team USA and performed at a beach party in Long Beach during the handover ceremony for the upcoming 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. Reflecting on his experience in Paris, Snoop stated, “I felt the energy, the pride and the love of sport that makes this team special.”
Commitment to Youth Sports
Beyond his honorary coaching role, Snoop Dogg has a longstanding commitment to youth sports through the Snoop Youth Football League. This initiative has positively impacted over 15,000 young athletes, including those with disabilities, showcasing his dedication to nurturing the next generation of sports talent.
This new role complements Snoop’s previously announced engagement with Olympic broadcaster NBCUniversal during the Milano Cortina Games, further solidifying his unique status within the Olympic community. As he looks forward to the upcoming events, Snoop remarked, “This is just the beginning. Let’s fire up Team USA together.”
As the 2026 Winter Games approach, Snoop Dogg’s involvement promises to bring a fresh and dynamic energy to the American team, aiming to inspire athletes and fans alike. His role as honorary coach represents a blend of entertainment and athleticism, highlighting the ever-evolving nature of the Olympic spirit.
