Luxury Watchmakers Showcase 16 Animal-Inspired Timepieces
Renowned luxury watch brands have unveiled an impressive collection of 16 timepieces inspired by the animal kingdom. These exquisite models, from houses such as Cartier, Hermes, Patek Philippe, and Vacheron Constantin, demonstrate intricate craftsmanship and artistic creativity, showcasing remarkable designs that can take hundreds of hours to complete.
Whimsical Craftsmanship from Hermes
At the forefront of this collection are the new Arceau Jour de Casting watches from Hermes. These three unique creations celebrate canine charm through various artisanal techniques, such as marquetry, enamel, and engraving. Each timepiece features a distinct dog portrait, meticulously crafted from different materials.
The black-and-white pup, Orson, is fashioned from eight types of wood, while Amy showcases vibrant colors through detailed hand-engraving and miniature painting. Taco, another charming character, shines with cloisonné enamel, defined by gold outlines and rich layers of color. Each watch is encased in a 38mm white gold case adorned with 71 diamonds and is part of a limited run of either 12 or 24 pieces, depending on the model.
Patek Philippe’s Art Deco Elegance
Moving into a more sophisticated realm, Patek Philippe introduces the Gondolo Serata “Zebra” Ref. 4962/200R. This luxurious piece merges Art Deco aesthetics with modern design, featuring a rose gold case set with 94 brilliant-cut spessartites that create a stunning gradient effect. The dial, crafted from sapphire crystal, is intricately engraved to replicate bold zebra stripes, enhanced by applied Breguet numerals and rose gold hands for clarity.
This timepiece is complemented by a satin-finished white calfskin strap, maintaining its sleek profile powered by quartz Caliber E15.
Cartier’s Iconic Panther
The legendary panther of Cartier is immortalized in the Ronde Louis Cartier Panthere Metiers d’Art. This 36mm watch, crafted in yellow gold, showcases a panther sculpted in black-lacquered mother-of-pearl. The captivating design features a gradient lacquer that transitions from black to a vibrant yellow, employing an intricate gold-leaf technique that catches light beautifully.
The watch is further enhanced with a beaded crown set with an inverted emerald and a pear-shaped emerald for the panther’s eye. Powered by the slim 430 MC manual-winding calibre, this piece exemplifies Cartier’s dedication to artistry.
Jaquet Droz’s Desert Dream
From Jaquet Droz, the Petite Heure Minute Platinum – Camels Oriental Magic emerges as a unique creation. Designed for a collector of prized dromedaries, this 41mm timepiece features a serene desert scene. The pitch-black onyx dial contrasts with a starry aventurine sky, while the engraved gold moon adds a mystical touch.
Camels are portrayed with striking realism, showcasing the watchmaker’s dedication to detail. The automatic movement, Calibre 2653 SI, offers a 68-hour power reserve, emphasizing both beauty and functionality.
Honouring Chinese Art with Jaeger-LeCoultre
In celebration of the Year of the Horse in 2026, Jaeger-LeCoultre presents a trilogy of watches, the Reverso Tribute Enamel ‘Xu Beihong’. Each piece honors the legacy of renowned Chinese artist Xu Beihong, featuring grand feu enamel miniature paintings that echo his iconic equine artworks.
The trilogy includes three distinct models, each requiring approximately 80 hours of meticulous enamel work. The watches are limited to ten pieces each, powered by the manual-winding Calibre 822, showcasing the maison’s commitment to its Metiers Rares craftsmanship.
Chopard’s Oceanic Joy
Chopard revives its beloved Happy Fish in a new edition that embodies the essence of the ocean. Crafted from Lucent Steel with ethical rose gold accents, the limited edition features a turquoise mother-of-pearl dial that shimmers like tropical waters. The playful design includes dancing diamonds alongside a rose gold fish adorned with diamonds, offering a fresh and vibrant look.
This 36mm watch is powered by a quartz movement, ensuring both style and reliability.
Louis Erard’s Playful Collaboration
The Unfrogettable from Louis Erard and Konstantin Chaykin transforms the regulator into a whimsical amphibian. The 40mm titanium case is finished with lacquered details and offers a playful take on watchmaking. Limited to 178 pieces, it features a unique movement and a design that appeals to both collectors and casual enthusiasts alike.
Bulgari’s Serpentine Elegance
In the realm of high jewelry, Bulgari showcases the Polychroma Serpenti Aeterna High-Jewelry Watch. This modern interpretation of the iconic serpent is crafted with a sculptural white-gold bangle, fully paved with brilliant-cut diamonds and colored stones that reflect a seamless transition. The dial’s design is punctuated by colored hands that complement the surrounding gems, housing a quartz movement.
Vacheron Constantin’s Mythical Masterpieces
Finally, in celebration of its 270th anniversary, Vacheron Constantin reveals the Les Cabinotiers The Labours of Heracles series. This collection brings four of Heracles’ legendary feats to life through exquisite craftsmanship, featuring grand feu enamel and miniature painting on a two-level dial. Each piece is a unique work of art, incorporating elements of Greek mythology, and is powered by the ultra-thin Calibre 1120 AT.
