Lingnan University’s Prof Li Elected Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry

Prof Li Liangliang, an Associate Professor at the Wu Jieh Yee School of Interdisciplinary Studies (WJYSIS) at Lingnan University, has been elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) on January 21, 2026. This prestigious recognition acknowledges his significant contributions to the field of new materials chemistry and underscores the academic excellence of WJYSIS.

The election as FRSC not only honors Prof Li’s research but also emphasizes the university’s commitment to promoting sustainable development through interdisciplinary approaches. Prof Li stated, “I am deeply honoured to be elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry. This recognition not only affirms my research work but is also made possible by the excellent research environment provided by Lingnan University.”

Advancements in Energy Materials

Prof Li is currently spearheading the establishment of the Laboratory for Advanced Energy Materials at Lingnan University, focusing on the development of innovative energy materials. His work aims to tackle global challenges in energy storage, striving to provide groundbreaking solutions for the future.

With a robust background in energy materials and battery research, particularly in the realm of all-solid-state batteries and solid electrolytes, Prof Li has authored over one hundred papers in top-tier journals including Advanced Materials and Energy Storage Materials. He holds eight granted invention patents and has received numerous accolades, such as the IEEE Electronics Packaging Society Outstanding Young Engineer Award and the Second Prize of the Beijing Higher Education Teaching Achievement Award.

His recent research includes a pioneering study published in Advanced Energy Materials, where his team introduced an innovative anode-free sodium battery. This new battery technology, which adjusts salt concentration in the electrolyte, effectively minimizes risks associated with short circuits during fast charging. Laboratory tests indicate it can be charged in minutes while ensuring safety and stability.
