Indian Army Chief Reviews ASHNI Drone Platoon’s Readiness
Lieutenant General Manoj Kumar Katiyar, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Command of the Indian Army, conducted a review of the newly established ASHNI platoon during Exercise RamPrahaar. This assessment, held on November 23, 2023, focused on the platoon’s validation and operational readiness.
The Western Command highlighted the capabilities of the ASHNI platoon on social media platform X, describing it as an “invisible Third Eye.” This advanced unit is designed to provide real-time tactical reconnaissance, surveillance, and precision strike capabilities, enhancing the operational efficiency of each infantry battalion within the Kharga Corps. The Command emphasized that the ASHNI platoon represents a significant leap forward in the Army’s future battlefield capabilities.
In a statement, Lieutenant General Katiyar remarked on the successful preparation of the ASHNI platoon, stating, “The review showed that the Indian Army is strong, capable, and future-ready on every front.” The assessment forms part of broader efforts to ensure that the Army remains at the forefront of modern warfare technology.
Support for National Cadet Corps and Disaster Relief Efforts
In addition to the review of the ASHNI platoon, the Western Command extended warm greetings to all members of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) on its 77th anniversary. The Command expressed appreciation for the values of discipline, leadership, and nation-building fostered by the NCC.
Earlier this year, the Western Command played a vital role in responding to severe flooding in Jammu and Punjab. They conducted extensive Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations, mobilizing 47 columns alongside Army Aviation and Indian Air Force (IAF) helicopters. A total of 24 aircraft were deployed, including three Advanced Light Helicopters, 10 reconnaissance and observation helicopters, six Mi-17s, and a Chinook, to facilitate evacuation and deliver essential relief supplies.
Lieutenant General Katiyar also visited the flood-affected areas, commending the efforts of all stakeholders involved in the disaster response. He acknowledged the dedication of police and civil administration officials and praised the effective collaboration that helped mitigate the crisis.
The activities of the Western Command, from the validation of the ASHNI platoon to disaster relief operations, underscore the Indian Army’s commitment to enhancing its operational capabilities while providing support in times of national need.
