India Honors 45 Unsung Heroes with Prestigious Padma Awards
In a significant recognition of dedication and service, the Government of India has selected at least 45 individuals to receive the prestigious Padma Awards as part of the 77th Republic Day celebrations. These awards, part of the ‘Unsung Heroes’ category, highlight the exceptional contributions of those who have worked tirelessly for the betterment of society without seeking the limelight.
Among the distinguished awardees are notable figures such as Kailashchand, Brij Lal Bhatt, and Dr Shyam Sundar, who have been recognized for their impactful service in various fields. The official announcement detailing the recipients is expected by the evening of January 28, 2024.
Recognizing the Unsung Heroes
The term “unsung heroes” refers to individuals who serve as vital catalysts for change, often remaining unnoticed despite their significant contributions. This year’s Padma Awards aim to celebrate the relentless efforts of these individuals who have made profound impacts in their communities, promoting social welfare and inspiring others.
Earlier on the same day, approximately 1,000 personnel from police, fire, home guard, and civil defense services received gallantry and service medals, further emphasizing the spirit of dedication that marks India’s Republic Day.

- Bhagwandas Raikar (Madhya Pradesh)
- Bhiklya Ladkya Dhinda (Maharashtra)
- Charan Hembram (Odisha)
- Raghupat Singh (Uttar Pradesh)
- Gaffaruddin Mewati (Rajasthan)
The Padma Awards are among India’s highest civilian honors, conferred annually on the eve of Republic Day. They are categorized into three levels: Padma Vibhushan for exceptional service, Padma Bhushan for distinguished service of a higher order, and Padma Shri for distinguished service.
