FJ Benjamin Founder Frank Benjamin Passes Away at 88
Frank Benjamin, the esteemed founder of the fashion retail group FJ Benjamin, passed away on December 10, 2023. His family shared the news in an obituary posted on Obits.sg, where they described him as a “truly extraordinary man whose kindness, generosity and unwavering grace touched every life around him.”
Mr. Benjamin’s impact extended beyond his family; he was a respected leader in the community and a mentor to many. His family reflected on his legacy, stating, “His legacy of compassion and integrity will continue to inspire us forever.”
FJ Benjamin was established in 1959, with Mr. Benjamin serving as CEO until 2006. He continued as executive chairman from 1999 until he became non-executive chairman in 2017. He stepped down from this role on December 31, 2022, and was later appointed emeritus chairman and adviser to the board of directors. The company is now led by his son, Douglas Benjamin.
Legacy of a Fashion Pioneer
Based in Singapore, FJ Benjamin operates in four cities and manages over 20 brands, with a total of 144 stores and approximately 1,600 employees across Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia. The company’s portfolio includes luxury and lifestyle fashion, timepieces, and beauty and health products.
The group is known for distributing well-recognized brands such as Cole Haan, Guess, La Senza, Marc Jacobs, and Superdry. Additionally, they handle watch brands including Guess, Casio, and Nautica. Notably, FJ Benjamin was previously a franchise partner for Manchester United‘s stores in Singapore. The company was first listed on the Singapore Exchange in 1996.
