Fit India Sundays Cycling Event Celebrates Vijay Diwas in Goa
The 53rd edition of the Fit India Sundays on Cycle took place along the scenic Konkan coast of Goa, marking a special collaboration with the Armed Forces in celebration of **Vijay Diwas**. This event not only emphasized the growing influence of the Fit India Movement but also expanded its reach beyond the National Capital Region, reflecting a nationwide commitment to fitness.
Participants gathered at **Miramar Beach Circle** for a vibrant cycling rally that wound its way to **Dona Paula** and back. The event attracted a diverse crowd, including citizens, defence personnel, **NCC cadets**, athletes, and fitness advocates, all eager to promote a healthier lifestyle. The morning’s activities featured yoga demonstrations, Zumba sessions, and live performances of **Goan music**, highlighting the inclusive and enjoyable nature of fitness.
Among the attendees was **Ramesh Tawadkar**, Minister for Sports in the Government of Goa, and **Santosh Gunwantrao Sukhadeve**, IAS, Secretary (Sports) of Goa. Their presence underscored the government’s support for initiatives that encourage fitness. Tawadkar shared his journey as a physical education teacher and cycling enthusiast, stressing the importance of cultivating a culture of fitness similar to that seen in many European countries. He mentioned that adopting fitness as a way of life can lead to significant behavioural changes across the population.
The event also featured participation from various celebrities and accomplished athletes, including Telugu film actor **Manchu Manoj Kumar**, actor **Mohammed Ali**, and Arjuna Awardee **Bruno Coutinho**. They joined the rally to inspire others and promote fitness as a crucial aspect of daily life. In his remarks, Ali expressed delight at the community’s turnout, emphasizing the importance of such initiatives in fostering a healthier nation. Manoj Kumar elaborated on the necessity of discipline and consistency in maintaining fitness, praising the Fit India Movement for its role in motivating the youth to embrace healthier lifestyles.
This special edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle was made possible through collaboration with **Yogasana Bharat** and **MY Bharat**, ongoing partners dedicated to promoting fitness and well-being across the country. Their support, along with the involvement of NCC units and other fitness influencers, showcased the power of community-driven health initiatives.
The **Fit India Movement** continues to gain momentum, with events like this one reinforcing its vision of a healthier future for all. By encouraging regular fitness activities and participation, the initiative aims to create lasting changes in public health and well-being, aligning with the leadership of **Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi** and the **Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports**.
