EU Appoints Marijana Kujundzic as New Ambassador to Azerbaijan
The European Union has appointed Marijana Kujundzic as its new ambassador to Azerbaijan. The announcement was made by Kaja Kallas, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. Kujundzic takes over this important diplomatic role, succeeding her predecessor as the EU seeks to strengthen its ties with Azerbaijan.
Kujundzic currently represents Croatia in the Political and Security Committee (PSC) of the EU. Her extensive experience includes serving as an advisor to the Working Group of Foreign Affairs Counsellors (RELEX) at Croatia’s Permanent Representation to the EU. This background positions her well to navigate the complexities of EU-Azerbaijan relations.
As the new ambassador, Kujundzic will be responsible for fostering diplomatic relations and promoting EU interests in Azerbaijan, a country of strategic importance in the region. The appointment aligns with the EU’s broader foreign policy objectives, particularly in strengthening partnerships with countries in the South Caucasus.
The EU has been actively engaging with Azerbaijan on various fronts, including energy cooperation, trade, and regional security. The appointment of a seasoned diplomat like Kujundzic is expected to enhance the EU’s efforts in these areas, facilitating dialogue and cooperation.
Kujundzic’s tenure in this role comes at a time when Azerbaijan plays a pivotal role in European energy security, especially in light of the ongoing geopolitical shifts in the region. The EU’s commitment to diversifying its energy sources underscores the significance of her position.
In her new capacity, Kujundzic will work closely with Azerbaijani officials and other international partners to address mutual interests and challenges. Her experience within EU structures will be instrumental in navigating the complexities of bilateral relations.
The appointment has been welcomed by various stakeholders who see it as a step towards deeper engagement between the EU and Azerbaijan. As both parties look to enhance their cooperation, Kujundzic’s diplomatic skills and knowledge of EU processes will be crucial in advancing shared objectives.
This development marks a significant moment in EU-Azerbaijan relations, highlighting the importance the EU places on its diplomatic presence in the region. With Kujundzic at the helm, the EU aims to strengthen its strategic partnerships and foster stability in the South Caucasus.
