Arunachal Governor Highlights Value of Army Veterans at Reunion
The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Lt. General K. T. Parnaik (Retd.), emphasized the enduring value of Army veterans during the Ex-Servicemen Regimental Reunion of the 2nd Regiment of Rajputana Rifles held on October 21, 2023, in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. He addressed the audience, comprising veterans and their families, underscoring that their contributions to the nation extend far beyond military service.
During his speech, Lt. General Parnaik urged veterans to actively participate in community development, sharing the skills and leadership qualities they acquired during their military careers. He stated, “Even after hanging up their uniforms, they remain invaluable assets of the nation.” His remarks resonated with the gathering, which celebrated their shared legacy of bravery and service.
Honoring Sacrifices and Supporting Families
As part of the reunion, the Governor took the opportunity to honor Veer Naris—the widows of fallen soldiers—and distinguished Ex-Servicemen for their sacrifices. He highlighted the importance of recognizing their contributions and ensuring they receive the respect and support they deserve. Lt. General Parnaik called for a collective responsibility among veterans to look after the families of those who served, emphasizing that they should have access to welfare schemes initiated by both the central and state governments.
The Governor also encouraged veterans to ensure that all Ex-Servicemen and their families are aware of the benefits available to them. He noted that many welfare programs exist, but awareness and access remain critical challenges that need to be addressed.
Addressing Concerns and Fostering Brotherhood
During the event, Lt. General Parnaik engaged with attendees, listening attentively to their concerns and suggestions. He proposed the creation of special committees of Rajputana Rifles Ex-Servicemen. These committees would focus on addressing specific issues affecting veterans and Veer Naris across the country, reinforcing the need for organized advocacy.
He urged veterans to foster camaraderie and maintain the spirit of brotherhood that is vital for nation-building. “We must strive forward with renewed purpose, as our sacrifices bind us together,” he remarked. The reunion drew a significant number of veterans from various regions, reflecting a strong sense of community among those who have served.
Lt. General Parnaik’s military career includes commanding an Infantry Brigade during Operation Parakram in the challenging terrain of Jammu and Kashmir. He has also held leadership positions in the 17 Mountain Division in Sikkim, the Indian Military Training Team in Bhutan, and 4 Corps in Northeast India.
The Ex-Servicemen Regimental Reunion served not only as a celebration of service but also as a reminder of the ongoing commitment that veterans have towards their country and communities. It highlighted the potential of Army veterans to continue contributing positively to society, reinforcing their role as invaluable assets even after their military careers have ended.
