Applications Open for 2026 Tsinghua Amgen Scholars Program
The Amgen Scholars Program (ASP) is now accepting applications for its 2026 summer session at Tsinghua University in Beijing. This international initiative, funded by the Amgen Foundation and directed by Harvard University, aims to enhance research opportunities for undergraduates aspiring to careers in biomedical science.
The program spans eight to ten weeks, during which selected undergraduates from around the world will work on research projects under the guidance of esteemed faculty. Participants will also engage in leading seminars, networking events, and a regional symposium, showcasing their work and connecting with peers.
Program Details and Benefits
From 2025 to 2027, the Amgen Scholars Program will be hosted at 25 premier educational and research institutions across the United States, Europe, Asia, Australia, and Canada. In Asia, five institutions will participate, including Tsinghua University, National University of Singapore, University of Tokyo, Kyoto University, and the International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad.
Tsinghua University’s School of Pharmaceutical Sciences (SPS) is a key collaborator for the ASP. This partnership is integral to the university’s advancements in life sciences and biomedical research. For the 2026 program, twelve outstanding candidates from Asia will be chosen, with their meal allowances, accommodation, and transportation costs covered. Each scholar will be paired with a faculty mentor throughout the research period.
Participants will have the chance to engage in laboratory work and academic activities alongside postdoctoral researchers, technicians, and graduate students. These experiences aim to inspire research interests and enhance scholars’ capabilities, laying a strong foundation for their future academic pursuits.
Cultural Engagement and Networking Opportunities
Beyond academic endeavors, the program will include extracurricular activities such as cultural exploration and networking events. These opportunities are designed to help scholars forge friendships and deepen their understanding of Chinese culture. Feedback from participants in previous years highlights the program’s profound impact; scholars from 2019 to 2025 reported significant personal and academic growth, as well as lasting memories.
In recent years, Tsinghua University has focused on nurturing diverse talents and fostering international collaborations, achieving notable progress in innovation-driven talent development. The upcoming program aims to build on the successes of past initiatives with the Amgen Foundation, continuing to provide an enriching experience for aspiring scientists.
