Acharya Mithilesh Nandini Sharan Champions India’s Ancient History
During the second day of Shabdotsav 2026, held at Delhi’s Major Dhyan Chand Stadium, Acharya Mithilesh Nandini Sharan asserted that India’s history is deeply rooted in its ancient texts, particularly the Vedas. Speaking to attendees on January 3, 2026, he emphasized that the notion of India’s history being unwritten is a myth and misrepresentation. As the head of Hanuman Niwas Peeth in Ayodhya Dham, he passionately defended the importance of India’s historical narrative.
Reaffirming India’s Historical Richness
Responding to a question about whether India’s history has ever been adequately documented, Acharya Sharan categorically dismissed the claim. He described it as a pervasive falsehood designed to undermine the nation’s rich heritage. The Hindu saint highlighted that the term “history” itself originated from the Indian subcontinent, asserting that the tradition of historical writing dates back to the era of the Upanishads, which further reinforces the depth of India’s cultural contributions.
According to Acharya Sharan, the Vedas, which are considered the oldest literary works globally, hold significant historical value. He stated, “The word ‘history’ has been used in India since the Upanishadic period, proving that the tradition of historical writing is very ancient.” His remarks aimed to illuminate the substantial literary heritage that India possesses.
Integrating Ancient Values with Modern Thought
Addressing the audience, Acharya Sharan emphasized the necessity of integrating ancient values into contemporary thinking to fully appreciate India’s cultural wealth. He identified ‘Shanta Rasa’ as a central theme in Indian history, citing the Ramayana and the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita as prime examples. He explained that these texts encapsulate core sentiments and values that resonate with the essence of Indian culture.
The saint also touched on the significance of history in daily life, stating that even personal milestones, such as a son’s marriage, are deeply intertwined with one’s historical background. This illustrates that history extends beyond books, permeating the social fabric of Indian society.
In response to claims suggesting that the Vedas are mere fabrications, Acharya Sharan labeled such assertions as a form of “mental illness.” He argued that imagination is foundational to all creation, and the methodologies outlined in the Vedas, particularly the discipline of Kalpa, exemplify a systematic and scientific approach to knowledge.
He asserted that to date, no scientific evidence has disproven the principles established in the Vedas. “When science has not been able to prove something false, it is unfair to call it imagination or myth,” he stated, underscoring the importance of recognizing the validity of ancient texts within the framework of modern scientific inquiry.
Acharya Mithilesh Nandini Sharan’s comments at Shabdotsav 2026 serve as a reminder of the profound historical narratives that shape India’s identity. His call to appreciate and incorporate ancient wisdom into today’s world resonates with those seeking a deeper understanding of India’s cultural heritage.
