Sky Labs Unveils Innovative Blood Pressure Monitor at ESC 2025
At the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Congress 2025, held from August 29 to September 1 in Madrid, Sky Labs introduced groundbreaking findings about its innovative blood pressure monitor, the CART BP pro. This cuffless, ring-type device has shown remarkable accuracy, even when the arm is positioned below heart level, satisfying the stringent validation requirements established by the European Society of Hypertension (ESH).
The ESH mandates six validation tests for cuffless blood pressure devices. These include assessments for absolute accuracy, robustness against hydrostatic pressure, detection of blood pressure decreases, circadian variations, responses to physical activity, and long-term calibration stability. The CART BP pro excelled in these evaluations, as highlighted by Professor Jihoon Kim of Samsung Medical Center during a presentation titled “Assessing the accuracy of a ring-type cuffless blood pressure device across postures.”
During the session, chaired by Professor Seok Min Kang, President of the Korean Society of Cardiology, and Professor Eugene Yang, Chair of the American College of Cardiology (ACC) Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease Section, Professor Kim emphasized the device’s ability to maintain accuracy regardless of arm position. He stated, “Traditional cuff-based devices require the arm to be positioned at heart level. CART BP pro maintained accuracy regardless of arm position, representing a significant step forward for 24/7 cuffless blood pressure monitoring.”
The study confirmed that there were no significant differences between readings taken at heart level and those from a lower position, aligning with standard auscultatory measurements. This advancement suggests that the CART BP pro is less influenced by hydrostatic pressure, ensuring reliable results across various postures.
Smarter 24-Hour Monitoring
On August 30, Professor Hae-Young Lee from Seoul National University Hospital presented findings on the device’s performance over a 24-hour period in line with the ESH 2023 recommendations. The session was co-chaired by Professor George Stergiou, President of the International Society of Hypertension, and Professor Gregory Lip from the University of Liverpool.
Professor Lee’s research demonstrated that the CART BP pro effectively captured blood pressure variations during awake and sleep periods. He stressed the importance of continuous monitoring to identify patient risk profiles. While ambulatory blood pressure monitoring is considered the clinical gold standard, it often causes patient discomfort and yields infrequent readings. In contrast, the CART BP pro allows for more frequent and comfortable measurements throughout the day and night.
Nocturnal Blood Pressure and Sleep Apnea
In the final session, Professor Woo-Seok Ha from Severance Hospital discussed the implications of nocturnal blood pressure monitoring in relation to obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Chaired by Professor Gianfranco Parati from the University of Milano-Bicocca and President of the World Hypertension League, this presentation highlighted the variability of nocturnal blood pressure depending on the type and duration of OSA events.
Professor Ha indicated that the findings suggest that the CART BP pro could facilitate nocturnal blood pressure monitoring without disturbing sleep, potentially becoming a valuable tool for assessing OSA risk and evaluating long-term cardiovascular outcomes.
Expanding Access
Since its launch in September 2024, the CART BP pro has been adopted by more than 1,600 hospitals and clinics across South Korea. Sky Labs has also announced plans to release a next-generation consumer model in late September 2025. This model will be available over the counter and will be supported by a dedicated mobile application, further expanding access to convenient and reliable blood pressure monitoring.
Founded in September 2015, Sky Labs is a leading healthcare startup that has developed the CART (Cardio Tracker), a ring-shaped medical device designed for monitoring health conditions using heart signals collected through optical sensors. The company has exclusive domestic distribution rights for CART BP with South Korea’s Daewoong Pharmaceutical and is preparing for nationwide sales targeting hospitals, clinics, and general consumers.
