Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council Expands Reach at ASTINDO 2025
The Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) is solidifying its regional presence by participating in the ASTINDO Travel Fair 2025 in Medan, Indonesia. This event, recognized as one of the largest tourism exhibitions in the nation, brings together travel agents, airlines, hotels, and healthcare institutions. It aims to enhance cross-border collaboration and showcase diverse offerings in tourism and medical care.
Leading the initiative, MHTC has established a Malaysia Healthcare Pavilion featuring a delegation of nine prominent Malaysian hospitals. This includes Institut Jantung Negara (IJN) and Mahkota Medical Centre, both finalists in MHTC’s Flagship Medical Tourism Hospital programme, along with other notable institutions such as Cardiac Vascular Sentral Kuala Lumpur (CVSKL) and Gleneagles Hospital Penang. This representation underscores Malaysia’s commitment to becoming a trusted destination for quality medical care and wellness.
Suriaghandi Suppiah, Chief Executive Officer of MHTC, emphasized the significance of this participation: “MHTC’s involvement at ASTINDO Travel Fair 2025 reaffirms Malaysia’s commitment to strengthening healthcare partnerships in Indonesia, particularly across Sumatra, which remains one of our key markets for health travellers.” He highlighted the goal of showcasing Malaysia’s medical expertise, advanced technology, and the warm hospitality that attract healthcare travellers from Indonesia.
The participation aligns with the Malaysia Year of Medical Tourism (MYMT) 2026 campaign, themed “Healing Meets Hospitality.” This initiative highlights Malaysia’s comprehensive healthcare ecosystem, which combines internationally accredited services with the unique cultural care offered in the country.
MHTC’s presence complements Tourism Malaysia‘s involvement in the travel fair, which promotes the upcoming Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign. This initiative aims to position Malaysia as a sustainable destination rich in culture, advocating not only for leisure travel but also for healthcare, wellness, education, and lifestyle tourism.
In collaboration with local travel partners, Tourism Malaysia Medan, led by Consul Rosalina Abdul Rahim, is also introducing unique holiday packages that include destinations like Ipoh, Cameron Highlands, and Melaka, along with specialized Umrah Stop-Over packages in Kuala Lumpur and Halal Tourism options through partnerships with local tour operators.
Malaysia has established itself as a leading destination for medical tourism in Asia, attracting patients from surrounding countries seeking specialized treatments in fields such as cardiology, oncology, orthopaedics, fertility, and wellness. The ASTINDO Travel Fair 2025 serves as a crucial platform for fostering collaboration between Malaysia and Indonesia in both tourism and healthcare sectors.
The participation of MHTC and its hospital partners exemplifies the synergy between medical excellence and hospitality that defines Malaysia’s healthcare travel experience.
