HKSH to Host Inaugural Asia-Oceania Proton Therapy Conference

HKSH Medical Group is set to host the inaugural Asia-Oceania Particle Therapy Co-operative Group (PTCOG-AO) Conference in Hong Kong from **November 7 to 9, 2025**. This landmark event marks a significant step forward in the field of proton therapy, following the introduction of Hong Kong’s first proton therapy system by HKSH in 2023.
The three-day conference will take place at the **Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre** and the HKSH Proton Therapy Centre, under the theme, “Advancing Particle Therapy with Greater Precision and Image-Guidance.” With support from the **Hong Kong Tourism Board**, **InvestHK**, and nearly 30 local and regional healthcare organizations, the event aims to showcase the latest advancements in proton therapy technology.
Participants will include over **400 attendees** from various backgrounds, such as academic researchers, clinical doctors, and medical physicists. The conference will feature seminars and expert lectures that highlight cutting-edge technologies, clinical data, and success stories in proton therapy, aiming to elevate medical standards and provide new hope to cancer patients.
Wyman Li, the Chief Operating Officer of HKSH Medical Group, expressed the organization’s commitment to advancing medical education and research. He stated, “Over the past two years, the HKSH Proton Therapy Centre has treated more than **500 patients**, accumulating invaluable experience in precision cancer care.” Li emphasized the importance of integrating clinical expertise with a global perspective during the conference.
The conference will also present notable keynote speakers, including Prof. Marco Durante, Director of the Biophysics Department at GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research in Germany, and Prof. Tatsuya Ohno, Chairman of the Department of Radiation Oncology at Gunma University Heavy Ion Medical Center in Japan. Their participation underscores the conference’s focus on fostering collaboration and innovation in particle therapy.
As the Asia-Pacific region plays an increasingly vital role in the advancement of proton therapy, the PTCOG-AO Conference aims to discuss various topics ranging from clinical applications to technological breakthroughs. Attendees can expect to learn about recent developments in image-guided technology, which enhances the precision of treatment plans while minimizing side effects.
