Zhao Lusi Surprises Fans by Running Night Market Stall in Hainan
Chinese actress and singer Zhao Lusi recently caught the attention of fans by operating a night market stall in Hainan, China. The 27-year-old star was seen selling traditional Chengdu-style pancakes, a culinary homage to her hometown. This unexpected appearance, devoid of a filming crew, sparked speculation on social media that her actions were not part of a commercial project but rather for a personal vlog.
Footage shared online shows Zhao actively managing the stall. She prepared food items, packed orders, and handled payments while engaging with customers. Her interactions included taking photos with fans, showcasing her approachable personality. This spontaneous venture highlighted a different side of the popular actress, known for her roles in hit Chinese dramas.
In January 2025, Zhao disclosed her struggles with depression, which she has faced since 2019. Following this revelation, she frequently appeared in media discussing her personal challenges rather than her professional projects. According to Oriental Daily, a Malaysian Chinese-language newspaper, Zhao mentioned that if her acting career were to end, she might consider making a living through a market stall, suggesting a deep connection to her roots and the life experience she cherishes.
Despite her personal struggles, Zhao expressed plans to return to acting in 2026 during a livestream on Xiaohongshu on December 31, 2024. She shared her intentions to participate in new projects, including releasing songs with accompanying music videos in time for the upcoming Chinese New Year. Additionally, she indicated a desire to make more appearances on variety shows, contemplating whether such engagements could help audiences accept her more fully.
Zhao rose to prominence through various successful dramas, including Love Like The Galaxy (2022), Hidden Love (2023), and Love’s Ambition (2025). Her dynamic presence on-screen has earned her a significant following, making her one of the leading actresses of her generation within the Chinese entertainment industry.
In her recent discussions with fans, Zhao conveyed a hopeful message about her recovery. She aims to rebuild her strength in 2026, gradually reducing her medication and focusing on her work. Her goal is to shift public attention back to her acting endeavors rather than her health issues, emphasizing her commitment to her career and personal growth.
Zhao Lusi’s unexpected market stall venture not only delighted her fans but also served as a poignant reminder of her resilience and dedication to her craft. As she prepares for a return to the screen, many eagerly anticipate her next steps in both her professional and personal journeys.
