William Shatner Hospitalised After Blood Sugar Emergency at 94

Canadian actor William Shatner was hospitalised following a medical emergency related to his blood sugar levels. The 94-year-old Star Trek icon experienced health issues at his home in Los Angeles, California, on the afternoon of September 24, 2023. After calling for paramedics, he was promptly transported to a hospital for further evaluation.
Reports indicate that Shatner is now “good” and “resting comfortably,” according to sources familiar with the situation. Despite his advanced age, he remains an active figure in the entertainment industry, frequently making public appearances and engaging in projects connected to his iconic role as Captain Kirk in the Star Trek franchise.
Career Reflections and Financial Insights
Earlier this month, Shatner shared insights into his career, revealing that he has not profited from reruns of Star Trek. In an interview with The Daily Telegraph, he explained, “Nobody knew about reruns. The concept of syndication only came in after Star Trek was cancelled when someone from the unions said, ‘Wait a minute, you’re replaying all those films, those shows.'”
He elaborated on the impact of a significant strike within the industry, which ultimately led to unions securing residual fees shortly after the series concluded. As a result, Shatner did not benefit financially from the show’s enduring popularity in syndication.
Despite these challenges, Shatner affirmed that his time on the show was financially rewarding for him at that stage in his career. “It paid very well for me in my experience up to that time,” he stated. “But by the standards of Hollywood, not very well – and with a dissolving marriage, with three children, I was broke at that point.”
Shatner’s enduring legacy and ongoing contributions to the Star Trek universe continue to resonate with fans worldwide. As he recovers from this latest health scare, the actor remains a beloved figure in popular culture.
