Warner Bros Revives Gremlins Franchise with 2027 Release Date
Warner Bros has officially announced the revival of the iconic *Gremlins* franchise with the upcoming release of *Gremlins 3*. Set to hit cinemas on November 19, 2027, this highly anticipated threequel will be the first live-action entry in the series in nearly four decades. The announcement, made during an investor call on November 6, 2023, marks a significant moment for fans of the beloved franchise.
The studio’s CEO and president, David Zaslav, confirmed that acclaimed filmmaker Steven Spielberg will return as an executive producer for the project. Meanwhile, Chris Columbus, the writer of the original *Gremlins* and director of the *Harry Potter* series, will take the helm as director and producer for the new installment. Additional writing credits go to Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein, while Kristie Macosko Krieger and Holly Bario will produce for Amblin Entertainment, alongside Michael Barnathan and Mark Radcliffe of 26th Street Pictures.
While there are currently no plot details or casting announcements, the excitement surrounding the project is palpable. The original *Gremlins*, released in 1984 and directed by Joe Dante, introduced audiences to the chaos that ensues when a teenager named Billy Peltzer receives a Mogwai as a pet. The film’s unique blend of horror and comedy resonated with viewers, ultimately earning more than US$212 million worldwide and contributing to the establishment of the PG-13 rating in the United States.
The sequel, *Gremlins 2: The New Batch*, released in 1990, grossed US$41 million and has since become a cult classic. The franchise’s enduring popularity is evident, and Warner Bros Pictures’ president of development and production, Jesse Ehrman, expressed his enthusiasm for the new project. He stated, “Few titles are as beloved and iconic as *Gremlins*, and we’re beyond excited to bring it back for both lifelong fans and a whole new generation.”
Ehrman emphasized the privilege of collaborating with industry legends such as Spielberg and Columbus, promising audiences an experience filled with “the magic, mayhem, and heart of *Gremlins*” when the film debuts on the big screen in 2027.
This announcement coincides with Zaslav’s remarks regarding Warner Bros’ impressive box office performance in 2025. He noted, “We’re leading the 2025 box office domestically. We’re leading it internationally, and we’re leading it globally.” According to Zaslav, Warner Bros is the only film studio to have surpassed US$4 billion in box office revenue in 2025, achieving this milestone with a notable number of original stories.
As Warner Bros prepares for the return of *Gremlins*, fans are left eagerly anticipating further details about the film, which promises to reignite the franchise’s unique charm for both old and new audiences alike.
