Veteran Actor Harish Rai Passes Away, Karnataka Deputy CM Pays Tribute
Renowned Kannada actor Harish Rai has passed away at the age of 55 after a prolonged battle with cancer. He was celebrated for his roles in notable films such as Om and the KGF series. His death marks a significant loss for the South Indian film industry, where he was a respected figure across Kannada, Tamil, and Telugu cinema.
Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar confirmed the news on his social media account and expressed deep condolences. He emphasized the impact of Rai’s passing on the film community, stating, “The passing away of Harish Rai, the renowned villain actor of Kannada cinema, is an extremely sorrowful event. The film industry has become poorer with the death of Harish Rai, who was suffering from cancer.”

Throughout his career, Harish Rai captivated audiences with his performances in various films. His work in Om, Hello Yama, and the KGF franchise showcased his ability to embody complex characters, earning him admiration from fans and peers alike. Shivakumar further noted, “In films including Om, Hello Yama, as well as KGF and KGF 2, Harish Rai had acted wonderfully and attracted everyone’s attention.”
Rai’s filmography includes popular titles such as Samara, Bangalore Underworld, Jodihakki, Raj Bahadur, Sanju Weds Geetha, Swayamvara, and Nalla. His diverse roles contributed significantly to the Kannada film landscape, making him a prominent figure for over three decades.
In his tribute, Shivakumar added, “I pray that his soul attains peace and that God grants strength to his family and loved ones, who are in pain from his departure, to bear the sorrow. Om Shanti.”
