Taiwan Premier12 Victory Documentary Preview Released
A preview of the documentary Hero! Hito! Road to Champions was released on December 12, showcasing Taiwan’s journey to victory at the WBSC Premier12 tournament last year. The film features interviews with key players and the team’s manager, Tseng Hao-chu, as they reflect on the challenges they faced and the teamwork that led to their success.
Scheduled for release on January 1, 2024, the documentary highlights the experiences of Taiwan captain Chen Chieh-hsien, pitcher Lyle Lin, and other pivotal players. The tournament took place from November 9 to 24, 2023, across Taiwan, Mexico, and Japan, with Taiwan ultimately claiming the championship title.
The production company, Adata Technology, reported gathering approximately 300 hours of footage during their extensive interviews with around 70 players, coaches, and support staff. These conversations spanned various locations, including Taiwan, Japan, and the United States, capturing the essence of the team’s remarkable journey from the group stages to the finals.
Director Lungnan Isak Fangas expressed his aspiration for the documentary to convey a powerful message: “Never look down on yourself, but keep on believing, and miracles can happen.” The preview features candid interviews with Tseng, Chen, and Lin, who discuss the difficulties faced in assembling the team, particularly in light of criticisms regarding the players’ capabilities.
Interviews were also conducted with notable athletes from competing nations, including Shosei Togo, a star pitcher from Japan, adding an international perspective to the narrative.
In a related development, Chen, who plays for the Uni-President Lions in the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL), recently published a book detailing his experiences during the championship run. He aims to provide readers with insight into the mental challenges faced by players during high-pressure situations.
“Through my book, I hope more people will understand what players experience during games, including their mental states and how they cope with pressure,” Chen stated. He emphasized the importance of teamwork and shared struggles, including dealing with injuries and overcoming moments of doubt.
Chen hopes the book will inspire younger generations to develop a passion for baseball, describing it as a gift to fans and a contribution to the growth of the sport in Taiwan.
As anticipation builds for the documentary’s release, it promises to resonate not only with baseball enthusiasts but also with anyone who appreciates the power of perseverance and teamwork in overcoming obstacles.
