Super Mario Galaxy Movie to Hit Theaters in April 2026
The highly anticipated sequel titled The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is set for theatrical release on April 3, 2026. Universal Pictures has confirmed the details, including the return of Chris Pratt as the voice of Mario, following the success of the previous installment, which broke multiple box office records.
Directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic will once again lead the project, having successfully helmed the first film. Under the production banner of Illumination and Nintendo, the creative team has already begun storyboarding scenes, promising fans another vibrant adventure in the Mushroom Kingdom.
Joining Pratt in the voice cast are Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek. New additions to the cast are expected to be announced in the coming months, heightening excitement surrounding the film.
Black, who voices the iconic villain Bowser, recently hinted at the potential for new characters in the franchise. In an interview with GameSpot, he suggested that there could be a shift in focus for the villain role, stating, “It’s not a given that Bowser will return. What if there is a more powerful, more evil villain?” He playfully mentioned Pedro Pascal as a candidate for the role of Wario, sparking speculation among fans.
The first Super Mario Bros. movie achieved remarkable success, surpassing Frozen II to become the animated film with the biggest opening weekend. It also set a record for the largest opening for a video game adaptation, outperforming Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania.
As the excitement builds for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, fans eagerly await more details about the storyline and additional cast members. With a strong returning team and a legacy of success, the film is poised to capture the hearts of audiences once again.
