South Korean Rapper Lee Young-ji Aims for Global Stardom and Collaborations
South Korean rapper Lee Young-ji is making waves in the entertainment industry with ambitions that stretch beyond her home country. At the recent Waterbomb Singapore festival, she expressed her dream of collaborating with international stars such as Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, SZA, and Doja Cat. Since winning the competition series High School Rapper in 2019, Lee has transformed from a promising talent to one of South Korea’s leading entertainers.
Reflecting on her journey, Lee noted, “I really upgraded. I did my upgrade as a human being and as an artiste as well.” With her debut in High School Rapper 3, she captivated audiences with her distinctive style and skill. Today, at the age of 23, Lee has released hit singles like Not Sorry and Small Girl, solidifying her reputation in both music and television.
Recent Achievements and Inspirations
Lee’s recent appearances on popular variety shows such as Earth Arcade have showcased her engaging personality. “Most of my music is about relationships, but it can also be about inner and outer peace,” she explained during an interview with CNA Lifestyle. Drawing from various sources of inspiration, including classic films, Lee aims to explore unique themes in her music.
As she looks ahead, Lee is eager to experiment with different genres, stating, “I feel that right now I need to focus on finding and shaping the one that suits me best.” While she has already collaborated with many respected artists in Korea, her aspirations now include working internationally. “Before they retire, I hope I can grow my career and music enough to collaborate with them,” she added, emphasizing her desire to reach a global audience.
Excitement for Waterbomb and Future Performances
At the Waterbomb festival, which marks her first international performance at this event, Lee admitted to some nerves about the crowd’s enthusiasm. “I think I am afraid of getting wet,” she quipped, recalling her previous experiences in Korea where the audience used water guns enthusiastically. Despite her apprehensions, Lee expressed excitement about reconnecting with fans in Singapore.
“I see it as a valuable chance to introduce myself and my music,” she stated, highlighting the significance of every performance. Her ambition is clear: she wants audiences to remember her as “a great performer,” and to recognize her as someone who brings energy and excitement to the stage.
When it comes to downtime, Lee has a refreshingly candid approach. “I pretend to be dead on my couch and on the floor sometimes! I don’t do anything,” she shared about her off days. This well-deserved rest, she says, is essential to recharge before diving back into her busy schedule.
In closing, Lee urged her audience to embrace positivity, saying, “Maybe… don’t fight? People fight too much.” She hopes her music can contribute to a more peaceful world and invites fans to follow her journey as she continues to create and perform. Lee Young-ji’s story is one of ambition, talent, and the drive to connect with audiences worldwide. Fans can catch her on the variety show Earth Arcade 3, streaming on Viu, as she navigates this exciting chapter of her career.
