Shah Rukh Khan Joins Billionaire Club with $1.4 Billion Net Worth

Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan has officially entered the billionaire club for the first time, with an estimated net worth of $1.4 billion (£1.03 billion). This milestone, highlighted in the Hurun India Rich List 2025, positions him among the world’s wealthiest actors. Khan’s fortune aligns him with prominent global figures, including Arnold Schwarzenegger, Rihanna, Tiger Woods, and Taylor Swift, whose net worth is reported at $1.6 billion by Forbes.
Khan, often referred to as Bollywood’s “King of Romance,” has enjoyed a prolific career spanning over three decades in the Hindi film industry. His journey has seen him transform from a leading actor to a successful producer and cricket team owner. Anas Rahman Junaid, Founder and Chief Researcher at Hurun India, noted that Khan’s billionaire status is primarily fueled by his investments in Red Chillies Entertainment, his production company, and Knight Rider Sports, his Indian Premier League cricket team.
Changing Economic Landscape in India
In addition to his film earnings and advertisements, Khan has made significant investments in real estate around the globe. Junaid commented on the shifting dynamics of wealth creation in India, stating, “As the Indian economy matures and moves to its next stage of wealth creation, we are seeing new centres of value emerge beyond traditional sectors like manufacturing, IT and banking.” He emphasized that sports, entertainment, and intellectual property-driven businesses now serve as “serious engines of wealth creation in India.”
This evolution mirrors trends observed in the United States, where the wealthy list has progressively included sports-team owners and media moguls, such as Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Oprah Winfrey, and Beyoncé. Despite the significant wealth among celebrities, Forbes highlights that reaching billionaire status remains a rare achievement, with fewer than two dozen individuals globally having accomplished this feat.
Khan’s entry into the billionaire ranks is particularly notable within the Bollywood landscape. Other prominent figures on the Hurun list include Juhi Chawla, Khan’s co-star in several films, with a net worth of $880 million. Hrithik Roshan ranks third with a net worth of $260 million, followed by director Karan Johar at approximately $200 million, and Amitabh Bachchan with his family at around $183 million.
Johar made headlines in 2024 when he sold a 50% stake in his production company, Dharma Productions, to billionaire Adar Poonawala for $119 million.
The overall billionaire count in India has now surpassed 350 individuals, with Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani maintaining their positions at the top of the Hurun list.
As the landscape of wealth and success continues to evolve, Shah Rukh Khan’s journey exemplifies the growing influence of the entertainment industry in shaping the economic narrative of India.
