Rahi Anil Barve Addresses Credit Theft in Film Industry Ahead of ‘Mayasabha’
Director Rahi Anil Barve has recently opened up about the pervasive issue of credit stealing in the film industry. As he promotes his upcoming film, Mayasabha, Barve reflected on the challenges artists face regarding recognition and credit for their work. Speaking to the Indo-Asian News Service (IANS), he expressed his acceptance of this reality, stating, “It’s how the world works. This thing is not limited to just the film industry; it happens in many other sectors. I have lived with it and made my peace with it. Nothing that I say can change the world. So, the peace lies in accepting it and moving on.”
Barve’s remarks come as he prepares for the release of Mayasabha, which marks his return to filmmaking eight years after the acclaimed horror film, Tumbbad. The latter has been credited with opening new avenues for the horror genre in India and has cultivated a dedicated fan base since its release.
Plot and Production Details of ‘Mayasabha’
In Mayasabha, Jaaved Jaaferi takes on a compelling role as Parmeshwar Khanna, a disgraced and reclusive producer living in a dilapidated, abandoned theatre. The narrative unfolds around local lore suggesting that 40 kg of 24-carat gold biscuits were hidden within the building decades ago. When two outsiders enter the theatre to investigate the treasure, they become ensnared in a claustrophobic web of secrets, leading to a tense cat-and-mouse pursuit.
The film delves into themes of obsession and existential despair, transforming a quest for wealth into a profound exploration of the human psyche. The tension escalates as paranoia and fixation replace reason in the characters’ minds.
The production features a background score by Sagar Desai, with cinematography handled by Kuldeep Mamania and editing overseen by Aasif Pathan.
Set to be released on January 30, 2026, Mayasabha promises to captivate audiences once again with Barve’s unique storytelling style and innovative approach to filmmaking. As the release date approaches, anticipation is building for what many hope will be another landmark film in Indian cinema.
