Lionel Messi Draws Enthusiasm as Hiranandani Welcomes Him
Lionel Messi, the Argentine football legend, is currently in India as part of his ‘GOAT India Tour 2025,’ drawing significant attention and excitement among fans. His presence in the country is being celebrated by co-sponsors of the event, including Niranjan Hiranandani, Managing Director of the Hiranandani Group, who expressed enthusiasm about hosting the global icon.
Hiranandani emphasized Messi’s status as a “global icon” and highlighted the importance of sports figures who inspire the youth. “We are one of the co-sponsors for the event today, and we look forward to a great innings of a sportsman, which is one of the wonders of the world,” he told reporters. His remarks underscore the growing recognition of football in India, a nation traditionally dominated by cricket.
In a conversation about football’s potential in India, Hiranandani argued that the sport is accessible and can be played in various environments, suggesting that the country could one day become a champion in football. “Football is played on the streets, and India could become World Champions in the world of football,” he stated. Hiranandani believes Messi’s presence will create enthusiasm and inspire young people to engage with the sport more actively.
Messi’s tour also saw him make memorable appearances in various cities. After a chaotic event in Kolkata, he received a warm welcome in Hyderabad, where fans gathered at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium. Those present enjoyed a unique experience as Messi engaged with children by kicking a ball around, creating lasting memories for many.
The ‘GOAT India Tour 2025’ will culminate in Delhi on March 15, 2025, marking Messi’s final stop in the country. His role as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador also brings a charitable aspect to the tour, reminding fans of his commitment to social causes.
As the enthusiasm for Messi builds, Hiranandani’s comments reflect a broader hope for the future of football in India. With growing grassroots support and events featuring international stars, the country may be on the cusp of a football renaissance.
