Hong Kong Art Toy Story Exhibition Opens in Kuala Lumpur
The “Hong Kong Art Toy Story 2025@Kuala Lumpur” exhibition officially launched on November 7, 2025, at The Exchange TRX, showcasing over 450 original art toys designed by 12 prominent Hong Kong creatives. This landmark event marks the first large-scale display of Hong Kong’s original art toys in Malaysia, highlighting the vibrant culture and artistic innovation of the region.
Hosted by the Innovative Entrepreneur Association (IEA) and sponsored by the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency (CCIDA) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the exhibition invites art toy enthusiasts, collectors, and the general public to explore the dynamic world of art toys until November 16, 2025. A ceremonial opening featured notable figures such as Christine Chie, Head of Architecture, Printing & Publishing and Promotion at CCIDA, and Cherrie Chong, President of IEA, alongside participating designers.
The exhibition is organized into distinct zones, showcasing works from both established and emerging designers. Among the featured artists are b.wing, Bee Wong, and Winson Ma. Visitors can anticipate an array of pieces, from museum-quality collectibles to exciting new designs. A special highlight includes six unique art toys that incorporate elements of Hong Kong’s intangible cultural heritage, such as Tai Chi Chuan and Herbal Tea.
In addition to the art display, attendees can engage with the history of Hong Kong’s art toy scene through a curated timeline tracing its evolution since the 1990s. Iconic collector’s items will be on view, providing insight into the pioneering brands that have shaped this vibrant industry. Interactive elements, including an augmented reality photography area and larger-than-life installations, will further enhance the visitor experience.
The exhibition offers special weekend events where attendees can meet the designers. Through live discussions, autograph signings, and hands-on demonstrations, visitors will gain unique insights into the artistic processes and inspirations behind the toys.
Cherrie Chong commented on the significance of the event, stating, “The art toy industry has experienced exponential growth in ASEAN countries since our first overseas showcase in Bangkok in 2022. We aim to deepen understanding and appreciation of creative industries between the two regions, paving the way for future collaborations.”
The “Hong Kong Art Toy Story 2025@Kuala Lumpur” stands as a tribute to Hong Kong’s legendary art toy culture, providing a platform for both established masters and emerging talents to share their passion. Johnson Chiang, the exhibition curator, emphasized the importance of showcasing Hong Kong’s creativity abroad, noting that the event reflects global recognition of the region as a leader in the art toy industry.
