On August 27, the team behind director Mohan G revealed the first look of the highly anticipated historical action drama, ‘Draupathi 2’, in a unique underwater setting. This unveiling coincided with the festival of Ganesh Chathurthi, heightening excitement among fans and industry watchers alike.

‘Draupathi 2’ features Richard Rishi, known as the brother-in-law of celebrated actor Ajith Kumar, in the lead role, alongside actress Rakshana Indusudan. The film is produced by Netaji Productions in collaboration with G. M Film Corporation. Set in the 14th century, the plot unfolds during the era when the Mughals first arrived in Tamil Nadu.

Historical Context and Production Details

The narrative is deeply rooted in the region’s blood-stained history, focusing on the valor and sacrifices of Veera Vallalar III, a Hoysala emperor who ruled South India with Thiruvannamalai as his capital, alongside the Kadavarayas of Sendhamangalam. The film aims to shed light on these significant historical figures and their contributions.

Director Mohan G, known for previous works such as Pazhaya Vannarapettai, Draupathi, Rudra Thandavam, and Bagasuran, brings a wealth of experience to this project. The film boasts a diverse cast, including Natti Natraj, Y. G. Mahendran, Nadodigal Barani, Saravana Subbiah, Vel Ramamoorthy, Siraj Johnny, Dinesh Lamba, Ganesh Gaurang, Divi, Devayani Sharma, and Arunodayan.

Creative Team and Filming Locations

The screenplay is a collaborative effort between writer Padma Chandrasekhar and Mohan G. Music for the film is composed by Ghibran, while cinematography is handled by Philip R. Sundar. Choreography is led by Thanika Tony, and action sequences are organized by Action Santosh. The editing process is overseen by Devaraj, with art direction managed by Kamalnathan.

Approximately 75% of ‘Draupathi 2’ has been filmed in Mumbai, with additional shooting taking place in Senji, Thiruvannamalai, and various locations across Kerala. A notable aspect of this film is its connection to the 2020 release of ‘Draupathi’, promising to expand on its predecessor’s themes and narrative.

The film is expected to hit theaters by the end of this year, generating significant anticipation among audiences eager to witness its portrayal of a crucial period in Tamil history.
