Cha Hyun-seung Reveals Leukaemia Diagnosis, Vows to Overcome

South Korean dancer and actor Cha Hyun-seung, known for his roles in the popular Netflix series Single’s Inferno and Physical: 100, announced on September 27, 2023, that he has been diagnosed with leukaemia, a type of blood cancer. In a heartfelt Instagram post, the 34-year-old shared his experience, including a series of photographs taken in a hospital setting.
Cha disclosed that he was rushed to the emergency room in June, where he received the alarming diagnosis. “In that moment, my life came to a halt,” he wrote. Until that point, Cha had been actively pursuing his career, successfully passing auditions for projects he was passionate about. The diagnosis, however, forced him to pause and reevaluate his journey.
In his post, Cha expressed the difficulty of accepting his diagnosis, describing how each day was filled with “fear and confusion.” Despite these challenges, he conveyed a sense of determination. He is currently undergoing treatment and is “quietly fighting day by day.” Cha stated, “The road ahead is long but I will definitely overcome this. My dreams and passion are still alive, and I am holding on, waiting earnestly for the day I can stand again on stage and in front of the camera.”
Cha also extended his gratitude to his supporters, saying, “To everyone who has supported me, knowingly or unknowingly, I sincerely thank you. I will surely overcome this and return stronger and warmer than before.”
In response to his announcement, messages of support have flooded in from fans and fellow celebrities alike. Notable figures, including Arden Cho, star of KPop Demon Hunters, shared encouraging words, stating, “Wishing you strength and speedy recovery! Fighting! You’re young and strong, you got this!” Similarly, Kang So-yeon, Cha’s co-star from Single’s Inferno, expressed her unwavering belief in his resilience, writing, “Hyun-seung will do well as always; I’ll be praying and waiting!”
As Cha Hyun-seung navigates this challenging period, his commitment to his dreams and the support from his community highlight the strength of the human spirit in the face of adversity. The entertainment industry and his fans remain hopeful for his swift recovery and return to the stage.
