Bhojpuri Star Khesari Lal Yadav Joins RJD Ahead of Bihar Elections

Bhojpuri actor Khesari Lal Yadav and his wife, Chanda Yadav, officially joined the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) on October 16, 2023, during a ceremony led by party leader Tejashwi Yadav. This move is set to enhance the party’s visibility in the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, where Khesari is expected to run for a seat.

Political buzz in Bihar had suggested that Chanda Yadav might be the one contesting the elections. However, recent reports indicate that Khesari will be the RJD’s candidate. The party is betting on Khesari’s vast popularity in the Bhojpuri film industry to attract voters, particularly among the youth and rural communities.

During the announcement, Tejashwi Yadav reiterated the party’s commitment to job creation, stating, “We have promised the people that after November 14th, when we form the government, we will enact a law to provide a government job to one member of every household that does not have a government job.” This pledge is central to the RJD’s campaign strategy.

Chanda Yadav encountered a technical setback when her name was found missing from the Bihar voter list. It was discovered that her name appeared on the voter roll in Mumbai instead. This issue led the RJD to nominate Khesari Lal Yadav in her place, allowing them to maintain their momentum ahead of the elections. Although Khesari has not yet received the party symbol, he is poised to file his nomination as soon as it is allocated.

After joining the RJD, Khesari expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “We have been associated with Tejashwi for a long time, and today we will definitely get the opportunity to work with him. We will work together and campaign across Bihar for the Grand Alliance.”

Khesari, who hails from Chhapra, is well-known for his work in the Bhojpuri film industry and enjoys a significant fan base. The RJD hopes that his entry into politics will invigorate its campaign and draw new supporters ahead of the elections.
