Baku Welcomes Premiere of Film “Sermon into the Void”
The premiere of the film “Sermon into the Void” took place in Baku on December 7, 2025, as part of the OIC Culture Festival: Baku Creative Week and the Baku Cinema Breeze international film programme. The film has received support from the Azerbaijan Film Agency (ARKA) during its post-production stage, reflecting a commitment to promoting local cinema.
Director Hilal Baydarov delivered an insightful presentation at the event, discussing the film’s central themes, creative direction, and its journey through various international film festivals. He highlighted that screenings at prestigious venues such as the Venice International Film Festival, Tokyo International Film Festival, and the Cairo International Film Festival have played a vital role in enhancing the visibility of Azerbaijani cinema on the world stage.
During his address, Baydarov expressed his gratitude to ARKA for their support throughout the film’s production process. The premiere attracted significant attention, drawing the film’s creative team, representatives from state institutions, local and international film experts, and members of the media and cultural community.
The audience’s enthusiasm for “Sermon into the Void” was evident, reflecting a growing interest in Azerbaijani film. The film previously screened in the Out of Competition section at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival and was featured in the main competition programme at the Tokyo International Film Festival, alongside its presentation at the Cairo International Film Festival.
This premiere signifies not only a milestone for Baydarov and his team but also a celebration of Azerbaijani culture and creativity on a global platform. The film’s journey continues to inspire local filmmakers and audiences alike, fostering a vibrant cinematic landscape in Azerbaijan.
