Singapore Court Upholds GNC’s Lease Rights, Boosts Growth Strategy
In a significant ruling, the Singapore International Commercial Court (SICC) confirmed GNC‘s rights to assume leases for former franchise stores previously operated by ONI Global Pte. Ltd. and LAC Global (Singapore) Pte. Ltd.. The court’s decision, announced on October 31, 2025, requires ONI and LAC to assign these leases to GNC and to pay approximately USD 46.9 million to the company. This ruling is expected to enhance GNC’s presence in the Singapore market.
The court’s affirmation aligns with an arbitration award, providing clarity in the market and reinforcing GNC’s commitment to delivering science-backed health and wellness products. GNC’s Chief International Officer, Cheri Mullen, emphasized the importance of the court’s ruling in eliminating confusion and ensuring consumer access to authentic GNC products. “We are grateful for the court’s clarity,” Mullen stated. “Our focus remains centered on serving customers, supporting partners, and advancing a disciplined expansion that reflects GNC’s best-in-class standards.”
Clarifying Market Dynamics in Singapore
The SICC’s ruling is particularly pivotal as it establishes a framework for GNC to reclaim control over the leases of 54 former franchise store locations in Singapore. It also mandates ONI and LAC to make reasonable efforts to obtain landlord consent for the assignment of these leases. As ONI and LAC plan to appeal this decision, GNC is prepared to move forward with its strategic initiatives.
In addition to the court ruling, GNC is enhancing its partnership with Watsons, a leading health and beauty retailer in Asia. This collaboration utilizes a store-within-a-store concept, allowing consumers to access GNC’s products conveniently. The partnership aims to create a seamless shopping experience that combines Watsons’ extensive retail capabilities with GNC’s science-backed offerings.
“GNC’s partnership with Watsons has been instrumental in reconnecting Singapore consumers with GNC’s product mix and expertise,” Mullen added. This initiative not only broadens consumer access but also reinforces GNC’s brand integrity in the region.
Looking Ahead: Consumer Confidence and Brand Integrity
As GNC progresses with its growth strategy, consumers can expect to shop confidently at official GNC locations, exclusively available at Watsons stores and through Watsons’ online platforms. This assurance stems from the commitment to provide authentic products that meet GNC’s rigorous quality standards.
The SICC’s ruling also clarifies the distinction between GNC and LAC, ensuring that LAC does not distribute GNC products. This differentiation is crucial for maintaining consumer trust and brand loyalty.
Overall, GNC’s recent legal victory and strategic partnerships signal a robust commitment to expanding its footprint in Singapore. By focusing on quality and accessibility, GNC aims to solidify its position as a leader in the health and wellness sector.
