Emerson Celebrates 60 Years in Singapore, Pioneering Automation

Emerson, a global leader in industrial automation, is celebrating its 60th anniversary in Singapore. Since establishing its regional headquarters in the city-state in 1965, the company has played a pivotal role in the evolution of industrial technologies, leveraging Singapore as a strategic hub for regional expansion and fostering long-term partnerships with local enterprises.
Innovating for a Sustainable Future
In recent years, Emerson has focused on advancing technologies that promote safer, smarter, and more sustainable operations across key industries. Many industrial companies have faced challenges in their digital transformation journeys due to siloed data and inflexible automation systems. Recognizing this, Emerson has developed a data-centric automation architecture designed to facilitate seamless information flow across various operational functions, including production, reliability, safety, and sustainability.
This initiative is encapsulated in Emerson’s vision of Boundless Automation, which aims to enable continuous optimization and adaptability to changing operational needs. The company launched Project Beyond, an innovative automation platform that integrates control, sensing, and analytics. This platform connects legacy systems with modern technology, aiming to enhance data intelligence, optimization, and autonomous operations.
“Data is central to operations, making strong connectivity and seamless data flow essential,” stated Susan Hughes, President of Emerson Asia Pacific. “Through our Boundless Automation vision, we aim to help customers utilize artificial intelligence more effectively, enhancing manufacturing capabilities while balancing reliability, production, and sustainability goals.”
Building Collaborative Solutions
Emerson’s commitment to addressing the complexities of today’s business environment is evident in its collaborative approach to digital transformation. The company established the Solutions Centre in Singapore in 2017, which serves as a hub for industrial technologies and tailored solutions. The centre offers both in-person and virtual workshops for teams to explore Emerson’s technologies, identify operational challenges, and develop solutions collaboratively.
In addition to the Solutions Centre, Singapore is home to Emerson’s Global Additive Manufacturing Centre, which focuses on enhancing precision metal 3D printing for industrial applications. This facility supports the production of smart instrumentation, wireless sensors, digital valve controllers, and transmitters. The establishment of a Life Science Technology Transfer and Software Research Center also highlights Emerson’s dedication to advancing the life sciences sector through digital platforms.
The company’s Southeast Asia Service Centre, expanded in 2021, has significantly reduced downtime for customers using large-capacity flow meters, achieving reductions of up to 80 percent in service and line downtime.
Emerson’s commitment to innovation is further demonstrated through strategic partnerships. In 2019, the company helped launch the Energy and Chemicals Training Centre at Singapore Polytechnic, providing essential training for students and professionals in the energy, chemicals, and pharmaceutical sectors. Additionally, a collaboration with Nanyang Technological University (NTU) was established in 2016, focusing on applying 3D printing technologies to industrial control valves, thus bridging academic research with practical industry applications.
Beyond its core business, Emerson actively engages in corporate social responsibility initiatives, supporting underprivileged communities and mentoring youth in science fields.
Most recently, Emerson reinforced its leadership in the automation sector at the Boundless Automation Summit held in Singapore. The summit gathered industry leaders, experts, and clients to discuss shared goals around intelligent industrial automation and sustainable operations.
During the event, William Tan, Vice President and General Manager of Emerson Singapore, emphasized the company’s ongoing commitment to the region. “Emerson Singapore marks a monumental 60 years alongside the nation this year,” he stated. “We recognize the significance of the Asia-Pacific region and our customers’ need for a reliable partner to help them innovate and tackle ongoing challenges.”
He further noted, “We will continue to support them with a robust automation portfolio that helps reduce emissions and improve sustainability. Our Greening By initiatives aim to facilitate the transition to cleaner energy, enhanced energy efficiency, and reduced waste.”
As Emerson moves forward, it remains dedicated to advancing automation, sustainability, and digital transformation across various sectors, ensuring that it remains at the forefront of industrial innovation.
