The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has officially opened Phase I of the Hessa Street Development Project, aimed at improving traffic flow across the city. This significant upgrade will alleviate congestion between Al Khail Road and Sheikh Zayed Road, enhancing connections for both vehicles and nearby communities.

The newly expanded Hessa Street now boasts four lanes in each direction over a stretch of 4.5 kilometers. The project includes new bridges at key intersections with Al Asayel Street, First Al Khail Street, and Sheikh Zayed Road. Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, emphasized that these improvements are part of Dubai’s strategy to keep pace with urban development and population growth.

With approximately 90% of the project now complete, remaining enhancements include road upgrades, intersection improvements, and the introduction of cycling tracks. These works are expected to conclude in the second quarter of 2024. The total investment in the project amounts to AED 690 million, supporting the city’s ongoing infrastructure development.

The Hessa Street Development Project is designed to accommodate the anticipated population increase in surrounding areas. Regions such as Al Sufouh, Al Barsha, and Jumeirah Village Circle are projected to house over 640,000 residents by 2030. Once fully operational, the road’s capacity will double from 8,000 to 16,000 vehicles per hour, significantly easing traffic congestion.

In addition to improving vehicular traffic, the project includes a 13.5 km cycling and e-scooter track that connects Al Sufouh to Dubai Hills. This route features dedicated bridges over both Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road, designed to integrate seamlessly with the surrounding environment. The initiative promotes safer and more sustainable mobility options for residents and visitors alike.

As Dubai continues to expand its infrastructure, the Hessa Street Development Project stands as a testament to the city’s commitment to enhancing transportation networks while accommodating future growth.
