Colombia Shines at Expo Osaka 2025 with 1.3 Million Visitors

Colombia has achieved remarkable success at Expo Osaka 2025, drawing over 1.3 million visitors and generating an impressive USD 34.6 million in business deals. The country’s participation, managed by ProColombia, has highlighted its potential in trade, investment, tourism, and diplomacy, showcasing a vibrant cultural agenda alongside economic opportunities.
The Colombia Pavilion has emerged as a centerpiece of the event, attracting between 5,000 to 6,500 visitors daily. In just five months, it has served more than 150,000 cups of coffee and 10 tons of lechona, a traditional dish made of stuffed roasted pig with rice and peas. Colombia’s cultural offerings included events such as the National Day celebrations, craft exhibitions, and performances by the Amazonian group Kua Chika, reflecting the country’s rich heritage.
Expo Osaka 2025, which will conclude on October 13, 2025, features participation from over 160 countries. Colombia’s investment of only USD 10 million in its pavilion stands in stark contrast to Japan’s USD 200 million investment, yet Colombia has managed to create significant visibility and impact.
Business Achievements and Growth Opportunities
The International Business Matchmaking Forum, themed “Colombia, the Country of Beauty,” facilitated 353 business meetings involving 105 companies, including 61 international buyers and 44 Colombian exporters. The key outcomes of the forum included USD 34.6 million in immediate and projected sales, with a standout deal for USD 11 million in Hass avocado exports. Coffee emerged as the leading product, representing 85% of immediate sales, while the agro-food sector dominated with USD 34.2 million in deals. Notably, demand from South Korea and China accounted for 94% of transactions.
Carmen Caballero, President of ProColombia, remarked, “Expo Osaka 2025 is more than a showcase—it is a strategic platform that strengthens Colombia’s position in global markets.” This sentiment underscores the significance of the event in enhancing Colombia’s international trade relations.
Investment and Tourism Momentum
Colombia’s participation also revealed 23 investment intentions in various sectors, including infrastructure, agroindustry, information technology, and renewable energy projects like green hydrogen production and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). These initiatives illustrate Colombia’s commitment to sustainable development and innovation.
Tourism promotion efforts at the expo have resulted in expectations of USD 10 million in travel business, reflecting a growing interest in Colombia as a travel destination, particularly from Asia. With a strong emphasis on cultural exchange and economic collaboration, Colombia is solidifying its status as a strategic partner for Asian markets and positioning itself as an emerging player in the global economic landscape.
As Expo Osaka 2025 progresses, Colombia’s achievements reinforce its commitment to fostering international relations and expanding its influence in trade and investment.
