China’s Trade in Services Surges 8.2% to $644.2 Billion in 2025

China’s trade in services experienced significant growth during the first seven months of 2025, with total trade reaching 4.58 trillion yuan (approximately $644.2 billion). The Ministry of Commerce reported an increase of 8.2 percent compared to the same period last year, highlighting a robust recovery in various service sectors, particularly travel-related services.

Service exports contributed notably to this growth, amounting to around 2 trillion yuan. This figure represents a remarkable increase of 15.3 percent year-on-year. In contrast, service imports rose by 3.3 percent, reaching 2.58 trillion yuan. The trade balance in services resulted in a deficit of 581.56 billion yuan.

Travel-Related Services Drive Growth

The travel sector demonstrated exceptional resilience, maintaining strong growth momentum with a year-on-year increase of 10.4 percent, totaling 1.26 trillion yuan. Notably, exports in travel-related services surged by an impressive 62.9 percent, indicating a robust rebound in international travel and tourism activities.

In addition to travel services, the trade in knowledge-intensive services also showed positive performance. This segment grew by 6.8 percent year-on-year, exceeding 1.77 trillion yuan. The growth in these areas reflects a broader trend of increasing demand for specialized services within the global economy.

The data underscores China’s ongoing recovery and the significance of its service sector in contributing to overall economic growth.
