Canfornav Launches New Office in Hong Kong to Strengthen Asian Presence

Canadian maritime company Canfornav has officially opened a new office in Hong Kong, marking a significant expansion into the Asian market. This development, announced on October 20, 2025, reinforces Canfornav’s commitment to enhancing its global operations and better serving clients in the Far East.
The new office aims to strengthen partnerships and facilitate the growth of Canfornav’s fleet. The company currently operates 30 lake-suitable bulk carriers and plans to add 25 Japanese-built handy size bulk carriers over the next few years. This expansion aligns with Canfornav’s strategy to increase its service capability and regional outreach.
“This new expansion marks our 49th year of operation,” said Knud Baek Jensen, President and CEO of Canfornav. “We are very pleased to open this new office which will be operated by Christoph Held. With Montreal, Limassol, and now Hong Kong, we cover strategic hubs for our routes,” he added.
Founded in 1976 as a vessel operator focused on the lumber trade, Canfornav has evolved into a leading international dry bulk carrier in the St. Lawrence and Great Lakes regions. Renamed in the 1990s, the company has expanded its fleet by chartering larger vessels and now ranks among the major players in the global shipping industry.
Canfornav’s Global Operations and Commitment to Sustainability
Canfornav operates a fleet of 50 vessels, providing a reliable and sustainable service that transports approximately 8.1 million tonnes of cargo annually. This includes a diverse range of goods such as grain, agricultural products, fertilizers, steel, and raw materials. The company connects the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence River to 900 ports globally, facilitating over 400 voyages each year.
The new office in Hong Kong will play a pivotal role in enhancing Canfornav’s operational efficiency and client engagement in Asia. The company is dedicated to reducing its environmental impact through fuel-efficient vessels and mindful maritime practices, striving to foster a greener maritime community.
As Canfornav continues to expand its reach, it remains focused on navigating a better future for global shipping while maintaining its commitment to quality service.
