Canadian maritime company Canfornav has officially opened its new office in Hong Kong, a strategic move aimed at enhancing its operations in the Asian market. Announced on October 20, 2025, this expansion underscores Canfornav’s commitment to better serve clients in the Far East and to foster new partnerships as the company prepares to expand its fleet.

The Hong Kong office will operate under the leadership of Christoph Held, marking a significant milestone for Canfornav as it celebrates its 49th year in the maritime industry. The office complements the company’s existing hubs in Montreal and Limassol, positioning Canfornav to effectively manage its global trade routes.

Canfornav’s fleet currently includes 30 lake-suitable bulk carriers, with plans to add 25 Japanese-built handy size bulk carriers in the coming years. “This new expansion marks our 49th year of operation,” stated Knud Baek Jensen, President and CEO of Canfornav. “We are very pleased to open this new office which will be operated by Christoph Held. With Montreal, Limassol, and now Hong Kong, we cover strategic hubs for our routes,” he added.

Founded in 1976 as a vessel operator focused on the lumber trade, the company has transformed into a leading international dry bulk carrier. Renamed Canfornav in the 1990s, it has successfully expanded its operations by chartering larger vessels. Today, Canfornav is recognized as a major player in the global ocean transportation market, specializing in handy size vessels.

Canfornav is dedicated to providing exceptional service, transporting approximately 8.1 million tonnes of cargo annually, which includes grain, agricultural products, fertilizers, steel, and raw materials. The company connects the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence River to over 900 ports worldwide, operating 50 vessels that facilitate more than 400 voyages each year.

In addition to its commitment to efficient maritime operations, Canfornav is focused on sustainability. The company is keen on reducing its environmental footprint through the use of fuel-efficient vessels and mindful practices, fostering a greener maritime community.

As Canfornav continues to grow, its new office in Hong Kong is poised to enhance its service capabilities and expand its client base in Asia, reinforcing its position in the competitive maritime industry.
