Anwar Ibrahim Invites JD.com to Boost Malaysia’s Logistics Sector

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim engaged with executives from JD.com during a visit to Beijing on September 2, 2025, discussing potential investments in smart warehousing. The Prime Minister, accompanied by Anthony Loke, the Malaysian Minister of Transport, extended an invitation for JD.com to enhance the logistics capabilities at Kuala Lumpur International Airport. This move aims to solidify the airport’s position as a regional logistics hub and facilitate more efficient support for Malaysian and ASEAN products entering China.
During the meeting, Hu Wei, a member of JD.com’s Strategy Executive Committee and CEO of JINGDONG Logistics, confirmed the company’s commitment to expanding its investment in Malaysia. This initiative is expected to bolster the supply chains between the two countries and boost the presence of Malaysian products in the Chinese market.
China has been Malaysia’s largest trading partner for 16 consecutive years. JINGDONG Logistics, leveraging its established warehousing network and expertise in cross-border logistics, is well-positioned to meet Malaysia’s growing trade requirements. Since 2019, JINGDONG Logistics has set up four local warehouses specifically designed to support both Malaysian and Chinese brands, enhancing the overall logistics framework.
Innovative Solutions for Efficient Trade
To improve logistics efficiency, JINGDONG Logistics has integrated advanced technologies into its operations. The company has implemented digitalized packaging and sorting processes, utilizing smart weighing stations equipped with integrated scanners. These systems automatically capture data on weight, volume, and dimensions, streamlining the logistics process. Currently, tens of thousands of items are processed daily, with a seamless integration of warehousing, transportation, and delivery that allows for same-day fulfillment.
Additionally, to accelerate trade between China and Malaysia, JINGDONG Logistics has initiated dedicated cargo flights between Shenzhen and Kuala Lumpur. These flights facilitate the swift transport of fresh Malaysian agricultural products to China while ensuring that Chinese electronics and consumer goods reach Malaysia efficiently.
Expanding Local Services and Workforce Development
JINGDONG Logistics is enhancing its operational footprint in Malaysia by introducing new services tailored to local market needs. Later this year, the company plans to roll out self-operated large-item delivery and assembly services, starting in Kuala Lumpur. This initiative will offer same-day fulfillment in select areas and next-day delivery to regions such as Penang and Johor.
The company is also focusing on talent development by collaborating with local organizations to identify and train Malaysian logistics and e-commerce professionals. This collaboration aims to create a skilled workforce that can effectively support both domestic and cross-border trade, thereby strengthening supply chain efficiency and service quality.
Founded in 1998, JD.com has transformed from a pioneering e-commerce platform into a leading technology and service provider, ranking 44th on the Fortune Global 500. Its logistics arm, JINGDONG Logistics, operates a comprehensive network that includes over 3,600 warehouses, covering more than 34 million square meters globally.
Through this strategic partnership, JD.com and Malaysia aim to foster a robust logistics ecosystem that enhances trade efficiency and economic growth in the region.
