Air Traffic at Aleppo International Airport Set to Resume
The Syrian General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport has announced that air traffic at Aleppo International Airport will resume on Tuesday, March 12, 2024. This decision follows a temporary suspension of all flights due to security disturbances in the city of Aleppo.
Safety Concerns Prompt Temporary Suspension
On January 6, 2024, the General Authority implemented a 24-hour suspension of flights at Aleppo International Airport, citing escalating security concerns. This initial suspension was extended for an additional two weeks as the situation in the city continued to deteriorate.
The Authority emphasized that the decision was made to prioritize the safety of passengers and flight crews. During this period, all scheduled flights were diverted to Damascus International Airport while necessary technical and security assessments were conducted.
Commitment to Enhancing Airport Services
With the resumption of air traffic, the General Authority expressed its commitment to improving the services at Aleppo International Airport. In a recent statement, they highlighted plans to enhance the travel experience in ways that meet passenger expectations and honor the people of Aleppo and all Syrians.
The resumption of flights marks a significant step towards revitalizing air travel in the region, which has been heavily impacted by ongoing security issues. As the situation stabilizes, the Authority aims to ensure that Aleppo International Airport can serve as a reliable gateway for both local and international travelers.
Officials remain hopeful that the resumption of flights will contribute positively to the local economy and provide greater connectivity for the people of Aleppo.
