ACEN Achieves 100% Renewable Energy Generation in 2025
On December 29, 2025, ACEN announced a significant achievement in its commitment to sustainable energy by reaching 100% renewable energy generation across its entire portfolio. This milestone marks the culmination of a strategic transformation that began nearly a decade ago, reflecting the company’s dedication to addressing climate change and transitioning away from fossil fuels.
In 2016, ACEN, the energy arm of the Ayala Group, had an installed capacity of only 1,000 megawatts, with renewable energy contributing a mere 2% to its portfolio. At that time, the reliance on coal was prevalent in regional power systems, and the large-scale adoption of renewable energy sources was just beginning. Acknowledging the urgent need for climate action, ACEN shifted its focus towards renewable energy, redirecting capital and enhancing its capabilities to expand clean energy initiatives.
Growth of Renewable Energy Portfolio
Today, ACEN has successfully increased its renewable energy capacity to over 7 gigawatts, encompassing projects that are either operational, under construction, or backed by signed agreements. This growth positions ACEN as one of the fastest-growing renewable energy platforms in the Asia Pacific region, with the Philippines serving as its core market. The company has also established a diversified presence, operating in Australia and extending its reach into Vietnam, India, Lao PDR, and making strategic investments in Indonesia.
According to Eric Francia, President and CEO of ACEN, “This milestone reflects our long-term strategy to align ACEN with the future of the energy system, while supporting decarbonization in a commercially disciplined way.” The company’s approach combines development, construction, and operation of renewable projects, enabling it to lead the energy transition in its markets.
Commitment to Net Zero and Community Impact
ACEN’s operations are now fully powered by renewable energy, and the company aims to achieve Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. This goal aligns with global climate objectives and underscores the company’s commitment to sustainability. In 2025, ACEN advanced a diverse portfolio of renewable energy projects, including:
- Solar: 4,634 MW
- Wind: 1,957 MW
- Geothermal: 115 MW
- Battery Energy Storage: 304 MW
These projects not only contribute to cleaner and more reliable power systems but also foster economic activity and local development in the communities where ACEN operates. The transition to 100% renewable energy lays a solid foundation for ACEN’s future growth, focusing on a just and inclusive energy transition that benefits all stakeholders.
As ACEN moves forward, the company emphasizes that effective execution of ambitious goals can lead to substantial real-world impacts. The successful completion of this transition exemplifies how strategic vision and dedication can pave the way for a sustainable energy future.
