Jason Teh Triumphs at Korea Masters, Securing Second Major Title
Singaporean badminton player Jason Teh claimed his second major career title by defeating Japan’s Yudai Okimoto 21-14, 21-15 in the men’s singles final of the Korea Masters tournament held on November 9, 2023. Teh, who was the top seed, showcased remarkable skill and composure throughout the competition in Iksan, South Korea, finishing the tournament without dropping a single set across five matches.
This victory marks Teh’s second Badminton World Federation (BWF) Super 300 title of the year, following his triumph at the Thailand Masters in February. In addition to his impressive performance, Teh’s win reflects his growing stature in the sport, as he continues to climb the ranks with a current world ranking of 26.
In the women’s singles final, Chiu Pin-Chian from Chinese Taipei emerged victorious against second seed Nguyen Thuy Linh of Vietnam, securing her win with a score of 21-16, 21-15. Both players displayed exceptional talent and determination in their matches.
The Singapore Badminton Association (SBA) extended their congratulations to Teh via social media, emphasizing the significance of his achievements. They expressed pride in his “stellar performances and composure on the court” throughout the week, underscoring the hard work and dedication that led to this success.
Teh’s victory also sets the stage for his next challenge. He is scheduled to compete in the Japan Masters in Kumamoto, joining fellow Singaporean player and world number 9 Loh Kean Yew in the main draw of this BWF Super 500 tournament. The competition promises to be fierce, with Thailand’s top-ranked Kunlavut Vitidsarn as the anticipated top seed.
Looking ahead, both Teh and Loh have been named to represent Singapore at the upcoming 2025 SEA Games in Thailand, marking another significant opportunity for the athletes to shine on an international stage. As they prepare for these events, Teh’s recent success at the Korea Masters serves as an inspiring reminder of the power of determination and belief in achieving greatness in sports.
