Singaporean Actor Jeremy Chan Shares Charming Love Story
During a recent press conference for his new drama, The Gift Of Time, Singaporean actor Jeremy Chan delighted fans by sharing the story of how he first met his wife, Jesseca Liu. The drama, which explores themes of life, loss, and grief, features Chan in the role of a dyslexic ex-convict battling cancer with an unfulfilled wish.
Chan recounted the serendipitous encounter that began their love story. “It happened that we were on the same company bus,” he explained. Though they were not supposed to be on the same bus—Chan was with the variety team while Liu belonged to drama—Liu decided to board the bus to return to Mediacorp. With only the two of them and the driver on board, Chan felt the weight of the silence.
Despite his attempts at small talk, their conversation did not progress far, and their paths diverged once more for several years. In 2014, they reunited while filming the Mediacorp drama Who Killed The Lead. “We started talking and I kept planning group gatherings, asking her to join us,” Chan recalled. This strategy allowed him to ease into their relationship without the pressure of a one-on-one setting. “Slowly, I got rid of the people around us and ate with her alone,” he added with a laugh.
Their romantic connection developed naturally, devoid of a formal first date. “You can feel it when the other person senses your interest,” Chan noted, highlighting the chemistry between them.
Three years later, in 2017, Chan proposed to Liu, marking a significant milestone in their relationship. Chan expressed admiration for Liu’s down-to-earth nature, while he humorously mentioned that her favorite trait about him is his ability to be “real and, of course, funny.” “I have a lot of ‘patterns’ every day,” he explained, emphasizing the importance of keeping their relationship vibrant.
When asked about their most memorable moment, Chan’s sentimental side surfaced. “It was one thing she said at our wedding,” he said. Liu’s vows included a poignant sentiment: while many believed Chan was fortunate to marry her, she felt that she was the one truly blessed because being with him brought her happiness every day.
This heartfelt admission deeply touched Chan, who remarked, “No one has ever said that.” He reflected on how most people focus on the surface, thinking it a privilege to be with someone as lovely as Liu. “But to her, she sees something else in our relationship,” he concluded, visibly moved by her words.
Chan’s reflections not only reveal the charming beginnings of their relationship but also underscore the depth of their bond. As they navigate their careers and life together, their story remains an inspiring testament to love and connection in the entertainment industry.
