Kayly Loh Embraces Change After Being Dropped from Role
Actress Kayly Loh recently experienced a significant career shift when she was informed just one week before filming that she had been replaced in an upcoming drama. This unexpected news could have dampened the spirits of many, but Loh chose to adopt a positive outlook instead. Taking to Instagram, the 37-year-old shared an inspiring message with her followers, stating, “If you’re in a season of closed doors, read this: Rejection is redirection.”
The actress, who has been a prominent figure in the entertainment industry, did not disclose the name of the project from which she was dropped. Nevertheless, her confidence and resilience were evident as she addressed her followers. “I’m not even mad about it,” she remarked with a smile, showcasing her newfound perspective on career setbacks.
Reflecting on her past experiences, Loh admitted that she has not always handled rejection so gracefully. A few years ago, she faced a similar situation where she had already prepared for a role—completing imaging, reading the script, and receiving the call sheet—only to be informed that she was not the right fit. “In my mind, what I heard was: ‘You’re not pretty enough, you’re not good enough, you don’t belong here,’” she recalled. This negative self-talk led her to spiral into doubt.
With her recent experience, however, Loh’s mindset has shifted dramatically. “I didn’t even shrink. I didn’t even doubt myself,” she asserted, emphasizing the sense of peace she now feels about her career path. She expressed pride in recognizing that the recasting was not a reflection of her worth or talent. “This is not about me, not about my worth nor my talent. They’re just doing their jobs,” she stated.
As her message resonated with many, Loh encouraged anyone facing similar disappointments, saying, “[Rejection] doesn’t define you – it refines you. Because trust me, the other version of you on the other side, she’s stronger than you think.” This empowering statement highlights her growth and determination to move forward.
Loh’s post garnered support from her peers and colleagues in the industry. Close friend and YES 933 DJ, Hazelle Teo, expressed her admiration, commenting, “My baby girl. So strong! I love that about you, always!” Fellow Mediacorp actor Benjamin Tan also resonated with her message, stating, “Omg needed this so badly today.” The two engaged in an encouraging exchange, with Loh responding, “Sending lots of love and hugs! You are awesome, Ben!” Tan reciprocated, “You’re amazing, too. We jiayou,” using the Chinese expression to cheer each other on.
This uplifting story highlights not only Loh’s resilience but also the supportive network of colleagues within the entertainment community. Her journey underscores the importance of maintaining a positive outlook in the face of adversity, inspiring others to view rejection as an opportunity for growth rather than a setback.
