Tomorrowland 2025: Resilience Shines After Mainstage Fire
Tomorrowland 2025 faced a significant challenge just days before its opening when a fire severely damaged the iconic Orbyz Mainstage. The blaze erupted during a rehearsal, destroying nearly 75% of the stage and raising urgent questions about whether the festival could proceed as planned. Despite the setback, organizers and production teams mobilized quickly to ensure that the festival would go on, embodying the spirit of unity that Tomorrowland represents.
Reconstructing the Heart of Tomorrowland
The Orbyz Mainstage was designed as a breathtaking spectacle, reaching over 50 meters in height and 140 meters in width. Its striking crystalline structure was meant to be the visual focal point of the festival. After the fire, which fortunately resulted in no injuries, Frank Verstraeten, CEO of PIXELSCREEN.eu, remarked on the urgency of the situation: “We had less than 24 hours to rebuild. This was only possible with equipment that was extremely reliable and could be installed very quickly.”
Immediately following the incident, PIXELSCREEN.eu took charge of recovery operations. The team effortlessly coordinated the logistics to construct a new Mainstage. In an impressive feat of engineering, they erected a substitute stage standing 8 meters high and 70 meters wide, utilizing approximately 700 LED cabinets. This rapid reconstruction was made possible through the use of the NovaStar’s COEX 5G control system, allowing for seamless adjustments that maintained the festival’s immersive atmosphere.
Despite its simpler design, the rebuilt stage retained the festival’s signature sensory impact, showcasing vibrant visuals, synchronized lighting, and powerful sound that resonated with attendees.
Visual Continuity Across the Festival
While the Orbyz Mainstage was being rebuilt, other stages at Tomorrowland continued to deliver exceptional experiences. The Freedom Stage, known for its ambitious design, featured the “Floating Sky,” a kinetic LED installation that transformed the environment above the audience. Constructed from INFiLED‘s lightweight AMT panels, this installation allowed light and sound to interact dynamically with the crowd.
Another highlight was The Great Library, a recently redesigned venue that incorporated curved LED screens along its arches, creating an intimate atmosphere with animated visuals and live feeds. The CORE stage, nestled in Tomorrowland’s forest, showcased a large split-face screen surrounded by natural scenery, providing a tranquil contrast to the festival’s high-energy areas. This integration of LED visuals throughout the festival emphasized their role as more than mere decoration; they were essential in weaving a cohesive narrative for Tomorrowland.
Throughout the festival weekend, the show went on without interruption, demonstrating that the spirit of Tomorrowland remained intact. “PIXELSCREEN.eu has been exclusively providing all video screens for Tomorrowland for 22 years, non-stop,” noted Verstraeten, reflecting on the long-standing partnership that enabled such rapid recovery.
In the end, Tomorrowland 2025 will be remembered not for the fire but for the collective resilience displayed by the production teams, artists, and attendees. The festival’s motto, “Unite Forever,” transcended mere words, becoming a testament to what can be accomplished when a community comes together in the face of adversity.
