Vinicius Jr Shines with Two Goals in Real Madrid’s 3-1 Victory

Real Madrid secured a convincing 3-1 victory over Villarreal on Saturday at the Santiago Bernabeu, largely thanks to a standout performance from Vinicius Jr. The Brazilian forward scored twice before Kylian Mbappe capped off the win with a goal of his own, solidifying Real’s position at the top of the LaLiga table with 21 points.
Early in the match, both teams struggled to find their rhythm, resulting in a deadlock. However, Real Madrid began to apply pressure as the game progressed. Aurelien Tchouameni had a close chance, heading a cross just wide of the post shortly after the 20-minute mark. Moments later, Mbappe intercepted a wayward pass from Villarreal, assisting Franco Mastantuono whose shot was deflected over the bar by defender Renato Veiga.
Villarreal also created opportunities, including a notable chance when Tani Oluwaseyi found himself one-on-one with Real’s goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who made a crucial save to keep the score level.
The breakthrough came shortly after the halftime interval. Vinicius Jr picked up the ball near the left byline, driving into the box and managing to squeeze a shot past Villarreal midfielder Santi Comesana, which deflected into the net. His second goal arrived in the 69th minute from the penalty spot, awarded after he was brought down by Rafa Marin. The shot just made its way under goalkeeper Arnau Tenas.
Villarreal responded quickly, demonstrating their resolve as Georges Mikautadze pulled one back in the 73rd minute with a low strike from the edge of the box. Despite this, the match turned in Real’s favor again when Villarreal’s defender Santiago Mourino was sent off in the 77th minute after receiving a second yellow card for a foul on Vinicius. This dismissal left the visitors vulnerable.
With Villarreal down to ten men, Real Madrid capitalized on their advantage. Just three minutes later, Mbappe scored, finishing off a move set up by Brahim Diaz who broke through the defense and laid the ball back for the striker. This goal sealed the match at 3-1.
The victory not only strengthens Real Madrid’s position atop the LaLiga standings but also highlights the growing synergy between Vinicius Jr and Mbappe, who continue to make a significant impact this season. Villarreal, sitting at third with 16 points, will need to regroup quickly as they look to bounce back in their next match.
